I'm working on a Mosin Nagant project, it'll be more of a nail biter than a tack driver.. I know I'm only going to get so much out of it, but I want to do what I can to improve the accuracy and I'm not sure whether I should glass bed the barrel or float it.

here's what I got so far..

oh the horror of transmogrifying such a precious rearsenaled war relic :what:

Thanks in advance..

float the barrel and glass the action - in that order.
...then if it doesn't shoot, glass the bbl too...but start as dakotasin directs, that does the trick for 99% of em'.

In the unlikely event that you do need to glass the barrel add some tension to the front of the stock. Best way to do that is to hang a 5 lb weight off the swivel (if you have enough stock to attempt that), bed it and release the tension after curing. This will push up on the bbl slightly and generally result in a better shooter.

:)

thanks guys..

I was thinking on glassing the action as suggested.. any thoughts on pillar bedding it to the magazine/trigger housing as well?

how many beers should this take to accomplish?

Certainly wouldn't hurt, and now is the time to do it if you want to, but I doubt you will see any real big accuracy gains...it is still a MN after all.

Don't be surprised if your beer budget exceeds your glass bedding budget. ;)

I'll be disappointed if my beer budget doesn't exceed my bedding budget.. lol

For glass bedding projects I'd go with a Porter; maybe if it's raining, a Stout.

Dude, I have been ALL ABOUT Zywiec Polish Beer lately.. It's a match-grade garand in a bottle..

I mean literally.. I coulda had a bunch of match grade garands if I hadn't discovered this beer drinkofbeer.gif
