I plan on using the rifle for hunting. I just want to know if it's a good quality rifle that is worth the money or if there are any others I should consider.

Thanks.

I have bought on a few years ago and its been a good shooter. Very well balanced and nice to carry. My father-inlaw has one and it will shoot minute to sub minute...and its the blue, walnut version... Only had one problem, the action screws loosened up and I had to re-tork them. Ruger service is the best in the business and I feel there is value there. I know some people have been very happy with the RUGER AMERICAN rifle. Ruger just came out with a stainless version if your into that. All in all I feel its a good product with the backing of good customer service and its made in the USA... Good Luck

EiEi;

My Hawkeye comes in the 25-06 variety. I have been very happy with with mine. The fit and finish are as expected. The bluing is a deep rich color and the walnut is dark with a lot of character in the wood. I used the scope rings that Ruger sent with it , and after sighting it in I have not had to adjust it since.

It will print clover leafs with two different factory loads ( if I do my part ) While I have not had to use Ruger's customer service for my Hawkeye I have been very pleased with them when I needed help with my MK ll pistol .

Good luck with your rifle search, Tentwing

Not sure on the Rugars but the 308 is amazing! It's the little slow cartridge that can!

I have a Ruger 77 RSI Hawkeye SS in .308 that is a simply a wonderful hunting rifle. With an 18.5" barrel and a Leupold 2.5-8x36 VX3 it is a wonderful light stalking rifle. The .308 Win round is a great hunting round for up to and including elk.

I have been quite happy with mine. Ruger puts out some dogs, so you always have to inspect them closely before buying, but my 308 Hawkeye is a good specimen.

Some of the older Rugers were somewhat hit or miss as to accuracy. I've heard of no issues with the 2006 and newer Hawkeyes. I've owned a few in the past and would own another. They are very good guns for the money. A little rougher finished and not quite as accurate as some other brands, but still high on my list.

Some targets from the Hawkeye All Weather 308 I used to own.

Top target @ 100 yards, bottom @ 200 yards as I'm getting it dialed in. I've found this to be typical of newer Rugers.

I have owned Ruger M77s for years in all sorts of calibers...next one if I can find one will be in .257 Roberts....the M77 is an affordable, accurate, dependable, beautiful rifle, Remington 700s were once the cats meow....not much quality in them now, Winchester is Winchester....but I stick to my Rugers.

They are good rifles. There are probably at least a dozen brands and models of bolt action .308 on the market right now that are also good rifles. If you want the Ruger flavor, go for it.
