I just got a Galco NSAII IWB holster for my Kimber Ultra Carry and it's pretty good. For about the same cost, but a 2 month wait I could have gotten an Andrew's Macdaniel II, which is very similar, but has a reinforced mouth and a stiffening flange to pull the butt of the pistol inward.

Here's the Galco:

and the Macdaniel II:

One of the problems with the Galco is that no belt loop near or in front of the pistol means the front can sag into the pants and that the draw is not so good as the holster tends to come up with the gun.

Anyone use the Macdaniel II? Any comments on this holster. I like the single attachment point and the way it pulls the butt of the grip inward (my galco does this too, but not as well I presume). I've only managed to find a couple small posts about the Macdaniel II on the forum.

thanks for any input.

The Galco NSA (original not the II) was one of my favorite holsters. Very similar to MacDaniel II. It had the re-enforced mouth (which for some stupid reason Galco ditched with the II) and fit very comfortably.
The adition of a forward loop does stablize the design somewhat, but it makes it more uncomfortable for me. One of the things I like about the NSA style is that when you set the single loop allows the gun to shift a bit. I have never found it a problem to draw, it isn't as fast as a kydex belt holster but what is?
I own three of NSA style holsters from different makers and all function in the same manner.

I have the McDaniel II. It's a great holster. Carried every day when I lived in Atlanta. Summer, 95 degrees, shorts and t-shirt - no problem. Get the body guard shield (or whatever it's called). Will help protect from parts digging into you, and will also protect against the safety accidentally disengaging.

Are you sure of the wait? That is one of Andrew's most popular holsters, and he probably has it in stock. At the Atlanta gunshows, he always had a large supply on hand.

I also have the Andrews holster, made for a SP101 but it works fine for a Detective Special. Great value for the money, and I'll mention that the angle of the belt loop is adjustable, and that it came with two loops and I could pick the sizes from at least 3 available. In short, I look forward to buying more of his work.

Satisfied customer, did you notice?

Hae had a McD II for a long time. While can't claim to have worn it constantly it's one of the best IWB's have ever owned. Really like the fact that you can change the cant and reholstering is a breeze. Only complaint is front sight all to easily can drag on inside of holster on the draw.

thanks for the replys. That pretty much settles it. My next holster will be a Macdaniels II. I ordered the Macdaniels mag pouch a couple days ago, so I can see the quality of work myself when it arrives.

thanks again for the input :) :) :)

well, I just got the mag pouch in the mail. Lessee, I ordered that sucker back in early May. Well, it was worth the wait. It is a thing of beauty and functions very very well. Hopefully I can get someone in my family to spring for the matching holster now for birthday present or something, as I already have a decent IWB and my wife will shoot me if I buy another one.

I've read that concern before on this forum, but from what the replys of folks who actually got the holsters from Andrews, the trigger is well covered. Apparently that's just a bad picture.
