Watch 6 or MacDaniel II for my 1911?

Carry gun is a Kimber Pro Carry II.

I currently use a Galco Royal Guard but am not really happy with it. It doesn't pull the handle into the body too well and makes it easier to print.

I'm thinking of getting the Watch 6 or the Andrews Macdaniel II.

The Macdaniel II has some extra added features that are what I'm looking for. Reinforced mouth, torque plate to bring the butt closer to the body and adjustable cant loops.

The Watch 6 looks like a very slim comfortable holster but doesn't have the reinforced mouth.

I'd like to stay under $100 for a holster since I'm spending money elsewhere at the moment (restoring a 70 Cougar XR-7).

Anyone use a Macdaniel II holster?

Lemme know whats working for you.

For my Kimber Tactical Pro, I use a Kramer IWB #3 in horsehide. The Kramers are heavy-duty, might just feel a tad bit thicker than a MS VM-2, but seems to be about as thick to me as a MS Summer Special ... although the Kramer is smooth outside. Doesn't have adjustable cant loops, but the two belt loops are adjustable (w/Chicago screws) for belt width. This holster conceals well for me; I have 'em for 5" 1911s, 4" 1911s, 4.25" 1911s, 3.5" 1911s and a 3" 1911. Have also used the Kramer for the Glock 19 & 23. For whatever pistol you need one for, should come in under 100 bucks ...

I have a Watch 6 in hand and another on order - I like 'em. I don't unholster/reholster a lot during the day, so the lack of an unreinforced mouth isn't much of a deal for me. I prefer to have a holster that doesn't stack the belt loops directly on top of the pistol, which reduced the number of choices quite a bit. I also liked having the cant built into the design with two belt loops. I have no real reason to prefer this in practice - it just looks like a better way of doing things. It certainly seems to help tuck the butt in. I also seem to recall, from last I looked at this, that the McDaniel II didn't cover the thumb safety unless you ordered the optional body shield. The Watch 6 comes with it standard.

Another option is HBE's COM3. Eric does a good job, and is pretty inexpensive for custom leather. I have a HBE COM2 rough-side-out for a 4" 1911 and it cost me less than the Milt or the Andrews offerings and is certainly the equal of the Watch 6.

Well there are ALOT of 1911 holsters out there..........everyone makes them, most are pretty good too. Heres my latest offering to the 1911 world, the Com 3/1911. Its redesigned with the help of some of the heaviest hitters in the holster world. Should be very nice for you 1911 guys........yes Im one of you too. :D

Shoot well.

A vote here for the McDaniel II. Best IWB I have tried and I have three of them. About to order a fourth when I get issued a new sidearm later in the year.

yeah, I generally wear owb, and like the Alessi CQC-S, If you want a higher ride that pulls in the grip well the Sparks 60tk works well. Josh Bulman does a nice job too.

I just ordered a com-3, brown leather with sharkskin trim. I can't wait for it to arrive. Shoot, 2-3 months is a long time. It will be worth every minute I wait though. Will post pics when it arrives. Eric at HBE was a pleasure to deal with. ..........A truely nice guy. :D  :D

I own the holster on the left in the picture Eric posted. It's been a pleasure to wear. I just need a good gun belt now.

Lenny PM sent...........no worries. AKman.....glad you like it. You got the first of the "new and highly improved" one, just for the 1911. Its getting pretty bad when I revise and entire style of holster just for one gun....but they are worth it....arent they????????? :D Thanks for the kind words........sincerely.

Shoot well.

Here's one that I just finished recently for a customer:

CochiseDefender-Anaconda2.jpg

It has the reinforcement to aid in reholstering, and also has the adjustable kydex clips. The clips allow you to adjust cant/depth. You can also wear it cross-draw, and/or OWB. To wear it in an OWB fashion, you would simply move the clips to the back of the holster. Price as shown: $87.50 + $5/shipping. Plain version price is $55. Turnaround time is 5-6 weeks.

hehehahaha gonna chime in...

I dont make a belt holster right now so I can get into this one without shamelessly promoting myself (which I am very known for and proud of!)...if I were gonna be getting one made for me, it would be made by Eric at HBE or Gary at Broomeland or Kevin at K&D....Nuff said:D

Yuppers Eric and Kevin, that sinking feeling you had in your stomach...that feeling that something wicked was slowly creeping closer..maybe it was something you ate?? nope that's not it...hmmm... did it feel.. almost intangable??..like it was the faintest glimpse into the warped mind of a madman?? almost like the slightest whisper of darkness?? well maybe it wasnt a feeling at all now was it?? yuppers I'M BACK!!!!!!

unpleasant dreams:evil:

New 1911 Holster

Greeting's Lennyjoe My Friend-

I was in need of a brand new holster for my 3" Kimber Stainless Ultra
Carry II, and searched the web high and low making an attempt to
find the right holster (with belt, and double magazine pouch) to fit
my needs. I looked to Bianchi, Safariland, Galco, Mitch Rosen, Milt
Sparks and others; but wasn't satisfied with either quality or price,
or both~!:uhoh: Finally, I happened on the web site of Kirkpatrick
Leather of Laredo, Texas and found a quality rig that fit my
budget. In late December of 05, I ordered the "Compact Under Cover"
rig, and on January 13th of 06 I received my order.

I was amazed at the fast, friendly, and courteous service extended
me by the Kirkpatrick Leather Family. With priorty mail delivery, my
order came to a total of $128; or a fraction of the cost as compared
to other manufactuer'ers. I would highly recommend these fine folks
to anyone seeking high quality leather goods at an affordable price.
I am very pleased with this transaction, and will buy from them
again in the future.

Respectfully,

If you're gonna wait for Sparks, might as well spend a bit more and go to the top - Mitch Rosen. The watch six is very nice though. You don't need a reinforced mouth unless you're gonna draw alot, like taking a class where you draw from concealment. No reinforcement mouth will be more comfortable and slimmer.

I noticed that no one ever mentions Kramer holster. Is there a reason? I have two, a iwb 3 for my kimber pro cdp and a thomas perfectionist that I just got for my sig revolution. I think they are great holsters and at a very affordable price. He has a website plus usually has them listed on ebay. Give them a look.

hey - nothing like resurrecting a long dead thread here ... :)

I was trying to find who makes my favorite 1911 IWB holder and a google of "McDaniel Holster" brought this up. Hot Diggity - the first post reminded me it was Andrews. Now to see if they make this model for the M&P.
