Opinions on Benchmade Nimravus

What are your opinions on the Benchmade Nimravus knives? I've been thinking of getting one in the M2 steel (whatever that means, it's more expensive so it must be better ) but another member whom I respect thinks I can do better than a Benchmade. I like the 'vibe' of this knife but not sure if it'll be the right decision for a fighting/utility knife.

Benchmade makes a very nice blade. IMHO, the Nimravus would be great for concealed carry. But since that isn't an option in Kali, the advantage is moot. So therefore I would go with some utility type fixed blade that would have a guard that is more substantial than the Nimravus'.

If you dig it though, just pick one up and test it out for yourself. I'm sure it will serve you well. Other people have different needs or preferences than you do; so the Nimravus might not work for Dan but it could be Skunk's Excalibur.

The Nimravus is an acceptable general utility knife. I prefer the Al Mar Operator for both utility and for pressing into service as a defensive weapon.

For the price ($40) you can't beat the CRKT Polkowski/Kasper Companion though. Much more of a small fighter it fits many fighting styles. Get the Kasper, don't use it for a utility and then buy an M16 or M18 for utility. You'll get both knives for under either the Nimravus or the Operator prices.

The Nimravus is well-made, and M2 is pretty good steel, but the knife does not have enough of a guard for dedicated fighter duty. I'd be concerned about running my hand up onto the blade. Also, this is just my personal opinion, but I think the blade is a bit on the thin side.

How much do you want to spend? There are tons of good fixed-blades around the price of the Nimravus.

Oooooh... which one are you getting?

The normal, or the cub? I like mine, the Nimravus Cub. Plain edge, M2 steel with the BT2 coating... very tactical.

Its a Benchmade......you cant go wrong with M2 steel and BT coating. You will like it.

Your other option is a Strider Knife.

I love my Nimravus, bought one when they first came out. I carry mine pretty much every day. I feel more than fine using it as a defensive knife. Anybody who worries about the lack of a guard probably has not practiced with one. Proper grip and that knife aint going nowhere. FWIW Fred Perrin did a review on one and was thrilled with his as well.
