Hey guys and gals. I was just wanting to get an opinion on the Hornady line of rifle ammo.

I use it almost exclusively in rifle and handguns. Let me know what calibers, grain, and line,... IE, Interlock, SST, A-Max that you use and what you think of it. Do you think it burns cleaner and hotter than other brands??

I love it, what say you?

I am really partial to the SST Light Mag 150 grain in .308 Winchester.

Has a nice kick to it too. Brings it up to a low end 7 mag. Shoots like a laser out of my Winchester M70 Coyote, and wifes Savage 16 Weather Warrior.

I also love Hornady in .308. I use the 165 grain BTSP Light Mag out of my Thompson Encore for deer season, and the last four years its been four shots four deer, so I would say it's worked pretty well for me.

I have not had a chance to try any of the other weights in .308. I'm thinking about trying the heavier weights, just to see how my M70 likes them. I'm sure my scope will be off a bit.

I use the 240 grain XTP .44 mag in my marlin 1894 and i can keep 10 shots inside a paper plate with iron sights @ 100 yards. Plus its not all nasty. Very clean burning powder.

man, that aint no lie. I try to buy a box once a paycheck or once a month. 2 bucks a round sucks.

For hunting I used the 308 180 grain light magnum and it made a very loud whap when it hit the deer and blew its heart up. I use cheaper ammo to practice with. I have never had a complaint with any Hornaday product except sometimes at the cash register.

Have used Hornady ammo in .22 Hornet, .22/250, .243, 6mm, .25/06, .270, 7mm/08, 7mm Mag., 30/30, .308, .38 Spec., .357 Mag., .44 Spec., and .44 Mag.

Have loaded at least some of their bullets in all of those calibers except the Hornet and the .308.... plus .375 H&H and .458 Winchester Mag.

Have used their cases and reloading does.

Have never been anything but thoroughly satisfied with any Hornady product.

It's as good.. or as bad... as a lot of other "top" ammo makers.
Point being, the more you try,the better the chance of finding what's "best" for you.

The only thing in rifle I have tried it in is 30-30 leverevolution 160gr and I love it. All my other rifles are zeroed with Federal and I am happy with it and I am afraid to change.

Good stuff! Both the Lite Mag and Custom perform very well.
I don`t see where the cost is out of line with other brands, actually I think it is cheaper for the most part.
I know Midway sells 308 150gr Lite Mag for ~ $10 less then the Federal High Energy the last I checked. Winchester Supreme and Remington Premier is Higher too.

I did not like leverevolution. My groups in my .30-30 got considerably bigger. Another guy on here was key holing with it. My .308 loved it.

Great Ammo

This was basically all I used for my hunting rifles before I started reloading...and the cost of it is the reason I started reloading...$40+ per box just got to be too much...

Amazing...since I started reloading my shooting has gone up and therefore my overall cost has gone up. :D

Hornady makes some incredibly accurate .224 bullets

Hornady 52 grain boat-tail, hollow-point target bullets are outstandingly accurate; however, for a .223 Remington deer projectile, I'd opt for the no- nonsense killing power of a 60 grain Nosler Partition bullet specifically designed for this purpose. Hornady does not make a deer specific bullet. Speer does in its 55 grain Trophy-Bonded BEAR CLAW bullet, but those are hard to come by. Nosler, to date, RULES this segment of the marketplace. Nosler Partitions offer MOA performance to boot. Someday, I expect Swift Scirocco II 60 grain bullets to be offered in .224" diameter to directly compete against the awesome, peerless Noslers. cliffy

I've been generally pleased with Hornady products. However, Federal seems to keep repeating as the best value for the money in factory ammo. Hornady light mags do give impressive ballistics though.

I have never used their commercial ammo but have used their bullets. I get .60 group out of my 308 with150 grain sst, and .365 with the 168 grain amax at 100 yards. Great bullets! The price of their ammo is the reason I have never purchased any but their reloading line of bullets are great!

Hornady is good stuff. The 140 grn Interlock bullet in .270 is the most accurate load I've found for my Winchester Model 70 Featherweight and the 139 grn Interlock 7mm is likewise the most accurate load in my Remington Model 700 Mountain Rifle in 7X57mm Mauser.
