Does anyone have any experience with Penn Bullets? I was looking at 405 grain single grease groove in 45/70.
Thanks, I called and talked to the president of Penn today and he said they were in stock.Make sure they have something in stock before ordering. If they are out it could be some time before they make a run of that bullet. I have shot some of them in .44 Spl, and they performed well.
Lots of choices in lead bullets out there.
Why a single grease groove bullet? If you run out of lube you get leading. I am currently shooting the 405gr bullet from Missouri Bullets and I can shoot them @1400 fps with no leading at all. Those bullets have 3 lube rings and IMO better than a single lube groove.Does anyone have any experience with Penn Bullets? I was looking at 405 grain single grease groove in 45/70.
I called and talked to the president of Penn and told him my gun, barrel length, rate of twist, powder, range, and that I was hunting deer and he told me to get these. Why a single grease groove bullet? The Penn site clearly states those bullets are not suitable for Black Powder...
Then why are you asking us if you already made up your mind with the help of the President of Penn bullets?I called and talked to the president of Penn and told him my gun, barrel length, rate of twist, powder, range, and that I was hunting deer and he told me to get these.
I was just wondering if anyone had used these bullets before so I would know if they worth getting. I am open to suggestions from others who have experience with other bullets, I have not "made up my mind" about anything. Also, I am using smokeless powder which is what the single groove is made for. Then why are you asking us if you already made up your mind with the help of the President of Penn bullets?
Thanks for the feedback.I was a little disappointed in Penn Bullets. Back before I started casting my own, I placed an order for several thousand bullets in various calibers. I got my email notification confirming the order. After waiting about 3 months, I called them. They still had the order supposedly but had not filled it yet. After waiting another 4 or 5 months, I called again and they had no record of the order. I was never charged for anything so there was no issue there.
I think my experience is the exception rather than the rule. I have yet to read any bad reviews about their bullets or service. In their defense, I placed the order during the height of the run on reloading stuff. Still, it didn't give me much confidence.
Luckily, I had started casting my own by the time I gave up on the order so, in reality, the problem just saved me a lot of money.
What do they charge in shipping?
Thanks. I wasn't sure about them, but I think I will stick with a more well-known company. (Not sure "well-known" is the correct word, but you know what I mean.) Their ultra cheap sample pack was appealing, but I don't need any added headache.I do not know if we can discuss it (Walkalong please delete if need be)
But some time ago there was problems with his company and actually getting the bullets even though they had been paid for. From this forum and another I do not have a "good opinion" One story after another.
If Mr Palermo has fixed this, then his bullets are fine but so are a lot of others.
This is all I will say and as polite as I can be.
Did the bullets shoot well?I have bought from Peen before without a hitch...
As noted, ask in advance if a certain bullet at a certain diameter is in stock before ordering...
Those are the same bullets I mentioned above and the bullets I'm shooting.
Just to be clear, Rule3 was talking about Penn Bullets, NOT Missouri Bullets.I wasn't sure about them, but I think I will stick with a more well-known company.
Yes, I understood that he was talking about Penn bullets.Just to be clear, Rule3 was talking about Penn Bullets, NOT Missouri Bullets.
The owner of Missouri Bullets is a THR Member, and offers a discount code for THR members.
Service is excellent, and so are his bullets.

I apologize for my mistake. I was just reiterating what I had been told, I have never reloaded before so forgive me for using improper terminology. I was just curious about a brand I had not heard of until last week, I did not mean to start a scuffle about how many grooves there should be or which bullet casting company is better. I was looking for personal experiences with THIS company so I could make an informed decision. Thanks. Those are the same bullets I mentioned above and the bullets I'm shooting.
BTW, single groove bullets are not "made for" smokeless powder, it's just the mold used for cast the bullets. Like I said above, if the lube runs out before the bullet leaves the barrel you will get leading in the barrel. That is less likely with a 3 groove bullet. I'm also shooting their 165gr bullets in my 30-30 levergun. Missouri Bullets produces a very good product.

Thanks for letting me know.I used to buy them years ago when I would go to the Harrisburg, PA gun show. They performed well, and I think I still have a few down in the basement. Have to load them up! I never ordered them to be delivered, but have read of long wait times if they are out.
