Opinions on the perfect nightstand handgun.

Even though I'm into revolvers I always considered the Glock G17 to be a perfict dependable handful of firepower. Many awesome handguns to be had but in an emergency I trust a G17 with a hand held flashlight.
I'm old school and I'll bet there's a lot of better ideas out there. Sure is a lot to pick from.

My perfect bedside gun has three criteria:

1. Begins with “Gl”

2. Ends with “ck”

3. Holds 13 or more rounds of “somebody picked the wrong house…”

Currently, and for the past several months, it's been a Sig P226 with an integral light attached to the rail. I have a .40 S&W upper for it as well, but generally stay with the original 9mm tube. My loads are Speer GD's of the ~125 gr persuasion.

In our "last resort" room is a 12 ga. with 5 rounds of 00 buck and a M-4 length AR; as we live on a relatively isolated farm, better than 1/4 mile from our nearest neighbor...The retreat room is over the garage, in my wife's sewing emporium...one way in, and one way out and with good cellular coverage for police calls.

We don't investigate 'bump in the night' sounds, but do make a call if headlights appear in the long drive in from the road (2x in 35 yrs). We're both in our late 70's, and the local sheriff's and county LEO's have all shot on my pasture range....we'd get a jiffy response if we called, but it'd take 15 to 20 minutes to get here. On the first floor is my German Short-hair who's raison d'eter is announcing all arivals.

Best regards, and keep your powder dry....Rod

after firing a firearm at low light (blinded by the flash), in a closed space (ear blast), and dealing with recoil in a not so perfect stance one might rethink his/her response. just saying...

I keep this on my nightstand.

If some pesky animal needs to be dispatched in the middle of the night... no need to wake everybody up doing it.

Then again, I also have this leaning up against my nightstand.

Not a hand gun... but much better at dealing with the other kinds of pesky "animals"...

Mine is a SAR CM9 G2, which is a clone of a Tanfoglio Witness Poly, and kind of a CZ P07 cousin. I have center mass laser on it, and since it was only $250 shipped, I wouldn't be suicidal if I lost it somehow. Totally reliable, one of the (IMHO) all time great grips, and almost impossible to miss with the laser, it's a great setup.

What I have now is a SIG P320 Carry in a Wilson Combat frame, with a Crimson Trace CRM-207 light/laser. In the closet I have a Mossberg SA-20 Tactical shotgun with a Streamlight TLR-1 light. I have done some low-light practice with the SIG, but I need to do the same with the Mossberg.
