I just saw one of these at a show. It was the "compact" version, and had strippled "" rubber grips on it, "factory".
I compared it to the S&W web sight and it's the same gun on the site. They had it for the MSRP, 11 and change. I think $1,159.00. So I would think it can be had for around a grand.
Does anyone have experience with this 1911. It had gold lettering, "script" saying Professional model, written on the muzzle, "if I remember correctlly". It was a perfect carry size for me, and am seriouslly considering picking it up at the same show, tomorrow.
I of course will price it on several websites first. Any input will help, I hate buying something and find out that if I would have asked, I would have not purchased it.
I went in looking at a Rock Island, but couldn't "pull the trigger" on buying it. It will take $300 dollars just to get it to where I would consider carrying it. The gun is what it is. The Smith looks like a pretty nice all around carry. Your thoughts?

I cannot comment on this exact model, but I have 2 standard S&W 1911's that I've had 2-3 years. I consider them to be the best 1911's in the $1000 price range. Better than my Colt, Kimber or the Springfield Loaded model I used to own. Under rated and a best buy in my opinion.

The RIA is now where near the same quality. I've owned those too.

Thanks, it felt really good. No excess bulk, yet solid and smooth action.I picked up a couple of cheap RI and ATI's afterthat, and they felt like a piece of junk. Even the Kimbers and other high end guns were not as smooth as the Smith.
I may trade an AR for one.

Funny you should ask....

I've spent the last six weeks searching for the "right" deal on the Pro Series Compact and finally took delivery last Thursday. The wife and I went out yesterday to feed this little beauty as well as her 38SPC carry gun.

I put 200 rounds of ball ammo loaded with TrailBoss through it and fell in love before I'd emptied the second magazine!! Watch GunBroker and you'll find one for under $1k, this one was $939 with zero bids and I'm quite happy with the price. PM me for info on a shop that has one for $950 that they're waiting to return from S&W after discovering that the front sight dovetail was loose, it's NIB.

She shoots extremely well and the short frame/grip is very comfortable even for somebody with large hands. I'm not a big fan of the rubber grip panels but in reality they don't "bite" you even after 200 rounds although I will be changing them out to smooth panels when/if I can find what I want.

^THAT is gorgeous

My EDC is a S&W 1911 ltd edition 5" Stainless. 6000+ rounds without a single failure of any type. I have other 1911s, my firearms collection is in the double digits and that being said it's my favorite.

No experienced with that model, but own a 1911PD and it's well-made, accurate and had a great trigger right out of the box.
