Opinions on the Savage 12 Long Range Precision Variminter

Saw a guy at the range shooting lights out with one of these.

Was curious what the general opinion of these are.

I definitely like the right bold, left eject feature.

Anyone shooting one right now? :)
 
I don't have an RBLP, but I do have Model 12s in 223 and 6.5x47. Great rifles. If I can ever afford Savage F/TR (or get that serious about F Class), I'll probably buy the RBLP action for the base.
 
I fired one of these babies, that a dude had, with a weaver fixed 36 power. I didn't think i would be that impressed, as i have some super accurate rifles myself.... I was wrong. this rig was super nice, and almost no recoil, about like a 17hmr. I would say that for a rig costing a total of under 1000 bucks, and without having to buy anything aftermarket, it is the most accurate rifle being made right now, from a factory standpoint. You would have to go very high end, or component, or custom to beat one.
 
Mine is a Savage 112 VSSR in 300 WinMag. I haven't done any realy long range work with the rfile, mainly because I don't have access to a range over 200 yards, but I am impressed with the rifle at shorter ranges.

The Accutrigger works well enough for me, and this model of Savage rifle has the laminated stock with the lare drop. The factory recoil pad, the shape of the stock, and the weight of the rifle tame the recoil quite well. I currently have a cheap commie China made scope, which hasn't broken, and seems adequate at shorter ranges. I like the fluted stainless steel barrel, but the flutes are so small they don't do much, if anything, to reduce the weight of the barrel.

I bought mine used, but not fired, for about $450. At the big sport retail places, the rifle lists for almost twice as much. Still, even at full price, it is cheaper than a Remngton made equivalent, like a Sendero.
 
I bought a Model 12 - LRPV in .223 this year for a Christmas present for my best friend ;>)
 
That's just what I needed to hear rangerruck, now I'm going to have to go and buy one. ;)

sorry dude, but hey, I wanna tell the truth, and again, I was pretty impressed.
His was a 223, and he had worked up a few handloads, plus shooting some blackhills and some winny 45's, and we were getting off subdime groups at 100 yds, off of just sandbag rests...
 
I'm waiting on a mount from Ken Farrell as we speak (it shipped 12/26/07). I've already got the VXIII 6.5-20 x 50 and Badger Max 50 rings in hand. It'll probably be a couple weeks before I'm able to get some rounds down range, and a little longer before I find the right load, but I'll certainly post some info/pics as I go.

I'm not a big bolt action shooter (mainly in to AR's and Garands), but my initial impression with the LRPV is very positive. To me the action feeding motion (racking the bolt) seems to be a little loose, but it feels very solid in the closed position. I have not adjusted the trigger at all, but it breaks crisp and light. I'm sure it'll take a bit for me to get used to the Accutrigger as this is my first, and I'm much more acustom to the 2 stage triggers in my AR's.
