Doug S,

Go for it. If you're just getting into 1911's, the Springfields' are a great hand gun to start with. At around $400.00, with a lifetime warranty, you can't go wrong IMHO.

good luck, and be safe.

I have had a SA Mil-Spec (not the WWII one) for about a year now. It has been the most reliable 1911 I have owned. I have owned 6 1911s in all, 4 of them have been Colts. The only one that came close to the reliability of my SA was a Colt Combat Target that I had. The SA Mil-Spec is one of the best values out there and I wish I could afford to buy another one tomorrow. I also have a friend who shot my Mil-Spec and was so impressed he bought one himself.

I have the 3-dot Mil-Spec.

I did a side-by-side comparison with my G35 last weekend (IDPA style practice). Even though the front sight causes me to shoot low at POA (I've learned to compensate), I was consistently more accurate with the Mil-Spec.

I bought it at the end of March and I have more than 1,000 round through it without a hiccup. It eats everything I've fed it (all ball). It's a workhorse, couldn't be happier with it...unless the front sight was POA compliant...

Safe shooting,

I admit it...I did my level best to break that pistol, without
success...and it wasn't a case of ammo. It was a total of
about 5100 rounds.

The only issues that I had were the extractor that wouldn't hold tension,
and the ejector bein' just a hair out of spec, and causing erratic ejection.
Replaced both with Ed Brown parts and had no further problems. I
used a drop-in MGW bushing to tighten it up a bit on the front end,
and it helped the accuracy a little, but there wasn't enough difference to
write an article in a gun rag.

Of course...mine has now been upgraded, with all MIM parts being replaced
with "Real Steel"...Some new aftermarket...some salvaged USGI. Even
got a long, steel trigger in it...(Down Fuff! It's not the one you sent!)
It's a homemade repro that I cobbled up from a GI bow and a hand-made shoe that I pinned on. Looks like the real deal if ya don't notice the pins...and ya gotta look close.

Other than the extractor/ejector and MIM issues, the gun is a solid
performer, and one that I'd carry...and will eventually.

Luck!
