Hey guys I'm looking to purchase a combat type shotgun. I was all set to get a Mossy 590 and trick it out when low and behold I saw an article on this FN Tactical Police model. I recently picked up a Rock River AR 15 so I'm wondering just how good an idea it would be to have a shotgun allmost identical to the AR. I don't have any knowledge of the FN so I'm looking for replies. Thanks, ShooterJD

Don't forget that FN Herstal (Belgium) owns Winchester and Browning in the USA. The FN Police Shotgun is a clone of the Winchester 1300. To do a direct comparison, here are some pictures:

The similarities are obvious. The same applies to the FN Self-Loading Police Shotgun, which is a clone of the Winchester Super X2:

So, if you can handle a HD/SD version of the Winchester 1300, you've already handled the FN, in effect.

Welcome to the board, ShooterJD. It's a good, knowledgeable crowd here.

A coupla things...

The 590 and the FN/1300 are both good shotguns. So are a half dozen others I can name. IMO, just pick the one that feels best and try to wear it out. A good shotgunner is abso$%^&*ing deadly with any of the good'uns. Software, not hardware, is the critical element.

One member here has been trying to wear out a 1300. Last I heard, he had put over 6K rounds through it inside a year, no probs.

The 590s have their fans also.

I prefer the time hallowed 870 myself, but if armed with either of the ones you mention, I'd be, IMO, well armed.

Once again, I cite the McC-Rule. "When all else is equal, get the one that FEELS best"...

I just picked up an FN Police Shotgun, and think it's great. I'm wondering though, if it's a clone of the Winchester 1300, will it take the barrels made for that shotgun? What about Winchoke choke tubes?

Owen, that's right. The McC-rule has been around quite a while. I recognized that folks shot best with the weapon they thought felt best. The Placebo Effect, and good but serendipitious fit.

The Mantra evolved here and on TFL.Many form probs are fixed with higher volume shooting. I've thought about using it as my signature line, but by the Almighty, Molon Labe fits me well....
