Hey everyone.

I'm trying to broaden the array of firearms that I have and started looking into shotguns since I have a pistol and AR-15 already. So I started looking into shotguns and am looking for opinions and recommendations.

I'm looking for both a short-barreled shotgun (SBS/AOW) for quick maneuverability and ease of carrying, and a regular tactical shotgun as just a regular long shotgun. Preferably semi-auto for both so as not to have to worry about taking the extra time to pump before firing more shots.

For both, I'm looking for ones that are as reasonably priced as possible and have a higher end capacity compared to others in its' category if possible. What is everyone's opinion on these

I have 2 shotguns, that are 12 GA w/slide actions. One is for field duty and has a 28" barrel, 5 shot capacity (3 with plug), came with multiple chokes and a bead front sight. I use it primarily for hunting. It has taken multiple geese, ducks and squirrels.

The second on has an 18 ½" barrel with no choke, adjustable rear sights and a fiber optic front sight. It has a 5 shot capacity and currently lives in the corner of my bedroom and will be used for intruders.

I have an 18.25" barreled Auto 5 with screw-in chokes that I love to shoot for a variety of purposes. They're not inexpensive by some standards but considering the quality they are VERY reasonably priced, IMO. Top gun in the photo below.

Most shotguns are going to be 5 shot capacity, unless you add a mag extension, then you run into the possibility of it being longer than the barrel. I have a 12” 870 and 1100…would take the 870 all day and twice on Sunday over the 1100. When you start shortening SA barrels a lot of things need changed as well…gas port size, recoil springs and in a lot of cases ammo choice. My 1100 runs pretty much anything, however it gets a “hair” in its backside every now and then and will not run slugs…I have yet to figure out the reason…clean gun, dirty gun, humidity, temperature…does not matter, when it doesn’t want to shoot it isn’t. If it, were I and it is not stay away from the AOW’s and get a shoulder stocked/brace gun…have fun.

might take a look at the CZ 712 utility G2. Comes with 5 chokes, has a 4+1 capacity and costs less than $600. I own a CZ skeet gun and a 9mm pistol and like the quality of both.

Check out Charles Daley 18.5-inch pump. Synthetic stock, corrosion resistant dull silver finish and fiber optic front sight! under $250 at some big box gun counters!

I have several other S/G's for hunting. This serves a single purpose equipped with a high intensity light and laser. ANTIFA made me do it! :)'s

For an SBS, you have reduced muzzle velocity compared to the field length shotguns so I'd just stick with a known good full power 00 or 000 Buck load or for shoulder punishment you can go straight to 3in 1.25oz slugs from federal! ;)

I have two:
My Winchester Defender Pump holds 8 rounds of 12ga. (The black one on the bottom)

and my favorite:
KelTec KSG Bullpup Pump holds 13 rounds of 12ga.

The OP seems to know what he wants. If he could narrow down the universe of shotguns with specific makes & models, then folks could comment specifically on those models. Otherwise, every single mil/LE/tactical/combat semiauto shotgun can be listed, only to have the OP choose none of them.

A semiauto SBS gets even harder to find or choose, although the OP likely only wants one of those.

OP, here are some websites from which to browse:
https://www.benelliusa.com/shotguns/12-gauge
https://www.beretta.com/en-us/shotguns/#a=HomeDefenseTactical&mpp=72
https://www.mossberg.com/category/application/security-shotguns/
https://www.remarms.com/shotguns/tactical/
https://www.remarms.com/other-products/v3-tac-13

There are other brands and then there are pump-action and mag-fed-semiauto shotguns too.
