Just wondering if anyone knows what the "ideal" bullet weight is for a 7.62x39 barrel with a 1:16" twist rate. Thanks.

OOOHHH! Come on spill the beans, what kinda 7.62x39 do you have that features that twist rate?

LOL. Kalashnikov, of course. :)

I was just curious if there was something more "optimal" than 123 grain Wolfs for the 1/16" twist on a .311" bore. I know, for example, that with a .224" bore not even a 55 grain would stabilize well in a 1/16" twist. Didn't know how much of a difference there would be with such a large bore difference. I figured that my poor groupings are a function of both my skill level and the inherent inaccuracy of the AKM. Just making sure.

I believe you're mistaken, Most AK and SKS variants use a rather FAST 1/9" twist +or- an inch or so.

The reason I asked is I had to custom order a shilen bbl in 7.62x39 to get a slow 1-15" twist

So what was the reason for wanting the 1-15 twist? Does the standard twist overstabilize bullets that much?

I wanted to get the most velocity and accuracy possible with up to 150grn bullets from a 26" bull bbl. Something I noticed is that benchresters don't run any faster twist than is necessary for the bullet weight they plan on shooting.
