Hi guys. I recently (as in less than 24 hours ago) picked up an 870 express to become my new defensive shotgun sense some thoughtful hoodlum stole my last one. Got the barrel cut to just under 19 inches last night, got it squared up and cold blued the bare metal today.

Anyway I'm not going to be putting a side saddle or anything on this gun but I'm looking for options to have aditional ammo available. Not sure what sittiation would call for it but I feel a weapon with a 6 shot capacity should have additional fodder on standby. I'm wanting something not attached to the weapon but that can be stored near it and kind of "grab and go" ready.

I'm thinking of one or two of the 12 round maxpedition pouches on a belt I have that has a snap buckle thing on it that cab be slung around rebuild and buckled in a hurry.

Any other ideas or options? It needs to be pretty quick. Don't wanna be threading anything onto my pants belt lol

Bandolier. It'll carry 25 shells for ya. Personally, I'd go for the ease of maneuverability and stick to a side saddle and a buttstock shell holder. No easier way to carry 12 more rounds w/o some kind of belt. The weight also tames recoil big time.

Allaroundhunter, my last scattergun had a mesa tactical 8 round shell carrier and a 2 round mag tube extension and an ati m4 style stock. Had 8 in it and 8 on it.

Problem was, it SUCKED to carry. I'm tryin to keep this one to just a short barreled pump with nothing bolted on it except maybe a synthetic stock set and a sling of some sort. I just hate the way a shell saddle effects weight and balance, plus I don't like having shells in my line of sight. Just my personal preference.

JBJ that rig looks insanely cool. Can't afford it righ now but definitely on the wish list.

Bandoliers SUCK if you have to move around a lot; ditto with sling loops for ammo. They just flop around too much.

I don't much like sidesaddles and I'm a Benelli ComforTech fan, so I'm pretty much stuck with LBE/vest carry.

Bernie, what do ya think of the a I've mentioned micro rig? Ya seem to think along the same lines as myself.

It looks nice but I'd suggest that two separate rows of loops are better than one two-row piece of kit. You're gonna want to be able to reach both rows equally, and two rows side-by-side will cause one of the two rows to have an impeded reach..

Good point Bernie.

Hunterdad, I like that a lot. Looks like you can use m4 mag pouches to carry extra cards right?
