Here in the land of Oz we have had rather a spate of shootings lately, despite ever-tightening restrictions on the lawful ownership of firearms. It seems these cunning bad guys are obtaining their guns illegally! With a few cases of guns being stolen from security guards the latest proposal is to require the guards to have their guns "indelibly painted" in a bright orange colour. Apparently that would make them undesireable to the bad guys
Now I can think of a number of reasons why this is doomed to failure, principal among them the difficulty of making a truly "indelible" coating, and the ease of simply spraying it matt black. I'm also concerned about making guns look like toys. The claim is however that this is done in the US:
