well guys I had my heart set on a takedown 22 rifle for a while now and after much looking at the henry ar7 and ruger's new takedown model I really liked the looks of the marlin papoose! so I ordered one yesterday but it wasn't quite easy to get one some dealers were not able to get it but one dealer was able to get one on the way! so now you guys who have this rifle how did you like it? as it looks to be a fun rifle, and to add this one is stainless with black synthetic stock. :)

I have had 2 of the 70ss rifles and 1 of the 70s with the wood stock, I have given all but 1 to my kids for a nice compact carry/camping/truck /emergency rifle, which in my view they do very well. I'm not real fond of the newer style bolt release lever currently in use, but engineers seem to just have to fool with things. Mine have been virtually trouble free, durable and reasonably accurate. I would suggest buying an additional operating spring, they are a little difficult at times to get back in behind the bolt and can kink on occasion. Generally speaking I like them, and congratulate you on a neat little rifle purchase.

Congratulations on your new purchase. Good little guns, I doubt you'll have a bit of trouble with it. Not to insult anyone who chose the the AR7 or to Mr. Stoner, but I think you made a good choice for a rifle that you intend to use a lot. I like the AR7 too just because it's so unique and because of connection with 007 and the air force, but I don't think it's as good as your rifle if you plan on shooting it a lot. I have an old Belgian Browning SA but it's so pretty it kind of defeats the purpose because I rarely use it out of concern for messing it up. The Ruger is a good gun too. Have to agree with Risky Buisness though, I like the older style bolt release....

thanks guys well I sure be glad when they get it in and it supposed to be tomorrow so with the paper work etc I hope I have it soon! looks to be a neat rifle and I wonder why its not talked about much anymore??

I've had one for a few years, great little light take down rifle. Had an AR-7 decades ago that turned me off to those rifles, totally unreliable. Nice concept that didn't work. The Marlin does work, and works well with any type of ammo, standard or high velocity. I put a little 4x scope on it that still fits in the case and helps these older peepers stay accurate.

Thinking to the future, I had the barrel threaded although I don't own a suppressor. Twenty five round mags are available for it, and they work reliably.

Can't think of any reason why you won't enjoy yours, good luck with it!

I have an ArmaLite AR-7 Explorer rifle and Charter Arms AR-7 Explorer II pistol. They are picky about the nose shape and power level of ammo and condition of the magazines. Right ammo and good magazines they're OK.

If I intend to take just one rifle to the mountain to knock about, it's usually my Marlin Model 60 or a .22 Mag Taurus pump 16" barrel. If I am taking a centerfire rifle or shotgun and might need a .22 rifle, I've taken the AR-7.

Starting over, from all I've heard, the Marlin 70 papoose would be a very good choice as a takedown survival rifle. Others have good things to say about the Henry AR-7 US Survival Rifle and the Ruger 10/22 takedown. I have owned Marlin Model 60s since the 1960s and am comfortable with knowing how to keep one runnng, so I would lean toward the 70pss from a personal preferrence.

I bought a blue Papoose back before Penny Marshall ruined K Mart so they'd quit selling guns and it was a fine little rifle that I could strap to my bicycle rack, pedal out in the country and snipe woodchucks and ground squirrels. Put a compact scope on it and If you torqued the barrel nut carefully it would return to zero. I gave it to son one and he still has it. Thumbs up, way over the other takedown by whoever is making it today (and I had one of those fat plastic stocked things also).

It’s been my “next rifle to buy” for a year now and been nudged 3 times for other rifles. My real concern, particularly with an internet purchase are the continued reports of QC problems with Marlin. Crooked sights, Model 60s shooting 4” groups at 50 yards...I say, with some reservation, congratulations but look it over very carefully before signing for it.

well I went and picked mine up yesterday and of course brought it home to clean it before going out to sight it in. so once I got out to the range I sighted it in really easy and quick! I gotta say this little rifle turned out way better than expected and shooting the Winchester m-22 and Remington thunderbolts this rifle with the winchesters shot super tight groups with the remingtons very close behind! so I am really happy I went with this really cute and fine rifle I love this gun so next gonna thin some of my excess stuff to buy another one of these excellent compact easy to carry rifles!

well I went and did it after owning and shooting this new marlin model 70pss I have fell in love with this fine little take down rifle and so I have purchased another one this week!! so I will be looking forward to having two of these cool awesome shooting rifles! marlin makes some fine 22 rifles and now I am wanting to add a marlin model 60 next they look really nice!
