Well I was going to order a 6mm A.I. but after talking to my GS and my varmint hunting buddy I decided to go with the 300 varminter instead.
Here are a few details we decided on the build.
Bat HR SS single shot, right port right bolt 300wsm bolt face, integral 20moa rail and recoil lug
Jewel trigger top safety no bolt stop
Krieger SS,HV contour .308 Cal 14tw finished at 27" with indicated target crown and Swirl barrel finish.
Chamber to 300WSM,Zero free bore ,no-turn neck
model 10 stock in rutland green mountain camo clear coated and rubbed to a satin finish with oil by hand.
Bat polished trigger guard
Pillar bed with SS front and steel rear
and last but not least Pachmayr recoil pad.

This will almost be like my first child I can't hardly wait for the next 7 months to pass. Now all I need to do is get all my Wilson dies and and arbor press ordered and find some Norma brass.

I do have a question for all the long range shooters I was thinking about a Leupold 8.5-25 with a 30mm tube and side focus but Richard my GS recommends the Nightforce 8-32x56 with a 30mm tube and Nightforce rings the price is about the same. W
hich would be considered the best? BTW I have several Leupold scopes and never have had a problem just not one with that much magnification.
Thanks Kevin
Recommendations for scope appreciated.

I've got that same Leupold on my Savage 308, and its a great scope. I'm sure the NF will cost quite a bit more, but is it that much better? Good question. Mine rarely comes off 25X, as I like to see the bullet holes at 300yrds, in my targets. If you can look through both, outside at a distance, it would help you make up your mind. I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-15x40 on a Rem LTR, that has a beautiful clear image, great scope also, unless your shooting the Savage side by side. The Leupold glass puts it to shame! Was gonna sell the Bushnell untill I shot it again by its self, great glass again. I just don't shoot it with the Leupold next to it, and I'm alright:D

Have fun picking, and congrats on the new toy!

I have three NF scopes: 3.5-15X56; 5.5-22X56 and a 12-42X56. They are worth every cent that I paid. For varmint hunting to 300 yards, I usually have them set around 10 to 12X. I only dial up when I want to see the holes for verification of my initial zero.

That is one big ole cartridge for varmint duty.

WRT the scope choice, I have been very satisfied with my Premier Reticles Heritage 5-25x56mm. In fact it is the best high-end tactical scope that I have used (I have some experience with most save for the Hensoldts and Vortex Razors). It has a 34mm tube, so your rings will have to be adjusted accordingly. I would suggest a 1-pc. mount/rings from LaRue or Am. Defense (lowest possible, still may require a cheek riser).

:)

Helluva gun...definitely want to see pics when you get it.

Hope the wait goes quick for ya (but I know it won't).

I plan to use it on more than varmints that's why I didn't go with the recommended 17tw barrel I wanted to be able to stabilize heavier bullets.
Here is a picture of a rifle Richard built mine will look similar but the action on mine has a integral 20 MOA rail built into the action and mine will also have a hand rubbed finish so it won't be so shiny,

I have that Leupold and would darn sure have taken the Nightforce if actually available anywhere close to the same price.

I am looking at the Mark IV series so the price difference is only a couple hundred bucks. The VX-3 series is not as expensive that is an option I need to check out.

Are you looking at the Leupy and NF with FFP or SFP (I assumed, possibly incorrectly, that you were looking at the FFP offerings)? The FFP riflescopes will run a good bit more than the comparable SFP models, but it is well worth the additional cost IMO. FWIW, I paid about $2250.00 for my 5-25x56mm PRH when they were first introduced (purchased from Scott at Liberty Optics), though I have heard that the price has climbed steadily since that time.

:)

If you plan on adjusting the elevation and windage turrets regularly, I'd suggest the NF over the Mark 4. Nightforce has some of the most repeatable, reliable and easy to use adjustments out there and they offer mil/mil. Some Mark 4 models are available with the new M5 adjustments (mil/mil). However, I'd take a FFP Mark 4 over a SFP Nightforce if the price was about the same. Mark 4 and NF are comparable in terms of optical quality so it's the other features that would be important to me.

NF doesn't have a FFP scope in 8-32x56mm. The 8.5-25x50mm Mark 4 is available in a FFP model with M5 adjustments with the tactical milling reticle (TMR) ... now THAT would make a nice scope!!

Well I suppose that clears things up. I would still pay for FFP if I wanted to use a ranging reticle for wind (I prefer twisting knobs for elevation). The Vortex Razor is about the price of a SFP Leupy (and less than most SFP NFs) and has garnered quite a few favorable reviews, so I would probably go that route. If I wanted to stay with SFP (or didn't want to chance a new product like the Razor) and around the $2k mark I would probably choose the NF.
