I'm going to order the Lee Classic turret press kit from Kempf's for Father's Day. What else do I need to buy that is not included in the kit or that I should upgrade from components included in the kit? I have "The ABCs of Reloading" committed to memory so I'm ready to go. I will order the 38/357 dies. I will also reload for my 348, but I already have a 2-die set from RCBS and a Lee factory crimp die. I also plan to reload for 30/06.
Thanks for the input.

pharmseller,

Check out the sticky for new reloaders at the top of the forum. Lotsa things there to help you out. Get yourself a list up, then post it and we can review it for you.

Dave

You may want to upgrade to the Pro auto disc powder measure.
Additionally you'll need a scale and larger powder measure for your rifle reloading. I have RCBS equipment there so I can't comment on how good the Lee scale and thrower are. You'll also need a caliper (digital from Harbor Freight works well), safety glasses, at least one load guide such as Lyman's, Speer, or Hornady. Load data is also available on the internet from the powder manufacturers. You'll also need case lube and trimmers for rifle reloading.

Here's what Kempf's offers for $145:

1. Lee Classic Turret Press (Four Hole Auto-Indexing Turret Press - sturdy enough to load rifle cartridges too)
2. Lee Deluxe 4-Die Set for the pistol caliber of your choice (Includes carbide sizing and factory crimp dies, powder thru expander die, and bullet seating die)
3. Lee Auto Disk Powder Measure (automatically dispenses the correct amount of powder-works for all pistol calibers)
4. Lee Safety Prime System (Eliminates the need to handle each primer individually)
5. Lee Auto Disk Riser (necessary for proper function of the Lever Prime System when using the Auto Disk Powder Measure)
6. Six MTM Plastic Ammo Boxes (reusable ammo storage boxes-hold 50 rounds each)
7. Is the scale included? Also the bullet puller? Not sure from the ad.

According to the sticky, here's what else I need:
1. scale (if not included)
2. bullet puller (if not included)
3. calipers
4. load manual(s)
5. brass trimmer/deburring tool
6. cartridge gauge
7. case lube
8. case tumbler

What about a primer pocket cleaner?

Feedback so far is to upgrade to the pro auto disk powder measure and the double disk system. Also buy another turret or two.
How's this look?

Pharmseller,
I just received the Kempf kit. The scale and bullet puller are not included in the $145 price. To be covered for large and small primers, you might want to also get the Lever Prime System Upgrade for $8.

My advice would be to upgrade to the large and small safety prime and the Pro Auto Disk. I also use the Lee case trimmer for 223 and I think it works great. I chuck the lock stud in a battery drill and trim, chamfer and debur all in a matter of seconds.

My 2 cents

What George757 siad. I too just got the Kempf kit. The scale and bullet puller are not included.

As everyone else said get the updrades for Pro Auto disk powder measure ($9.95) and Lever Prime System for large and small primers ($8.00).

As far as a scale Midway currently has their frankford arsenal micro reloading electronic powder scale on sale. Regulary $62.99 is now $29.99. I just got one and I agree with the reviews. Check it out! http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=713372

The upgrade is for the lever arm of the size not included and the Safety Prime trigger for that size --so you end up with capability for both small and large primers, I believe.

Kempf's will only send the primer feeder assembly for the size of the caliber you order with the kit. I ordered .38 Special dies with my kit so I only got the small primer feeder.
