In his "Talking Points" memo tonight, O/Reilly stated that the mayor of San Francisco's recent ignoring of CA law would be like the San Diego mayor letting anyone who wanted to carry a firearm and handing out licences to carry as fast as he could write them.

Kinda sounds like what David Codrea wrote HERE.

Of course this would never happen; but we can still dream ... can't we?

I'd love to see the answer to that request...:p

Although I'm no fan of gay marriage, I'm glad to see a politician w/ the cojones to stand up to (what he & his constituency believe to be) an unconstitutional law and refuse to follow it. If only other politicians would do the same on issues that I DO support....

"No. We won't cooperate w/ the FBI on a Patriot-Act investigation, and we'll prevent you from harassing our citizens by doing so."

"If President Bush refuses to deploy troops to safeguard our border with Mexico, we'll deploy the National Guard to do so--without his permission."

"Our city refuses to enforce unConstitutional gun laws, so we won't arrest someone for CCW w/o a license."

"If the Feds want us to give medical treatment to illegal aliens, they can come down & pay for it themselves. We won't be treating them for free anymore."

(Fat chance of seeing that happen, but one can dream.... )

Yeah, jimpeel, I saw that bit and was encouraged briefly. Then I realized that O'Reilly simply vacillates on guns and the second amendment, and he doesn't really seem very supportive of our rights. But last night's piece at least wasn't the usual blather about "nobody really needs..." :barf:

What I find so interesting is how media (all kinds) views the San Francisco situation and the first analogy drawn is "What if gun owners decides to disobey gun laws?"

I'da thunk the first reaction would have been, "Cool! I can stop paying my taxes!"

I wonder why.

Hey, it's really O'Reilly slamming gun owners

His whole point, IMHO, was to use what he considers another example of a totally ridiculous and outrageous violation of state law.

His example of SD issuing gun licenses to citizens was his way of ridiculing what he thinks would be the most outrageous flaunting of the law he could think of.

He is a phony populist and pseudo libertarian that is anti CCW all the way. He has that Long Island and Media "Guns are Evil" except for the police mentality.

It's too bad, up until he started ranting about assault weapons and kept referring to "a flood of machine guns on the street" I kind of enjoyed watching the show.

Here is the Talking Points Memo he gave

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,111906,00.html

Hi, I'm Bill O'Reilly reporting from California. Thanks for watching us tonight.

Gays continue to marry in San Francisco in defiance of state law. That is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points" memo.

The situation's now much bigger than just gay marriage. It's clear the authorities in California are not going to enforce the law, even though it is clearly stated. This is a massive breakdown in social policy. That's the fundamental problem. The combination of a frightened governor, a sympathetic press, and activist judges have nullified California's legal definition of marriage. And now full-blown anarchy is underway in the city by the Bay.

Finally, after seven days, Governor Schwarzenegger has issued a short statement. "Californians...overwhelmingly approved California's law that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman. I support that law and encourage San Francisco officials to obey that law."

Encourage? It's a governor's job to enforce the law, not encourage it. What is this? Are we not a nation where citizens are required to obey the law?

Here's what President Bush had to say. "I have watched carefully what is happening in San Francisco where licenses are being issued, even though state law states otherwise. I have consistently stated that I'll support laws to protect marriage between a man and a woman. Obviously these events are influencing my decision."

Well, that's a little bit better than Schwarzenegger. Bush is actually threatening to do something about this enormous mess.

Once again, I couldn't care less personally about gay marriage. I'm not coming at this from a religious point of view or a moral standpoint. But I'm telling you, ladies and gentlemen, society in America is breaking down fast. Two-thirds of California residents want marriage to remain between a man and a woman. One man says he's above that law and nothing happens to the mayor. This is incomprehensible and hypocritical.

In Alabama, Judge Roy Moore lost his job because he defied the law. Some conservatives groused, but most people understood that law had to be obeyed. But not this case. Again, this comparison. Say I'm the mayor of San Diego. Say I believe every American has the right to carry a gun for protection. That goes against California law. But Mayor Bill starts to issue gun licenses to anybody who wants one. Do you think the media would sit there and say nothing? Do you think Arnold Schwarzenegger would encourage me not to do that?

The whole world's watching this. If a California law is going to be openly defied by public officials, and nothing's said about it, you can forget about any discipline in our society. Want to take drugs? Go ahead. Want to marry your grandson? Knock yourself out. Want to throw a rock through a window? All day long.

The rule of law is under siege here in California. And now the politicians have nowhere to hide.

And that's "The Memo."

As written, that is not an anti gun or anti CCW statement.

He is saying the media is ignoring gay marriage and giving SF a pass because they agree with what is happening - if loose CCW permits were the issue, the media would be churning out predictions of blood in the streets 24/7 until something was done.

That said, OReily needs to come to Jesus on the gun issue.

Its all in how the media would spin it.

Pol allowing CCW = right wing anarchy

Pol allowing gay marraige = civil rights struggle, just like Rosa Parks

As written, that is not an anti gun or anti CCW statement.

I agree. I think that if it was picked for any specific reason, the example was picked because it's something that San Francisco liberals would tend to dislike. I saw that bit, and nothing about it said 'anti-gun' to me.

Got this from David Codrea tonight

Late evening breaking story...

KABA Writer Investigated for Questioning Civil Authority

Police say Investigation "Ongoing"

"Did you know that writing a rhetorical letter to the civil
authorities in California challenging their hypocrisy results
in a police investigation that includes not only calls from
detectives but two black and white police cruisers coming
to your home?"

"That's what happened to longtime gun rights activist and
professional writer David Codrea this week. What follows
is a link to the investigation-inspiring letter, a detailed
description of what transpired and a description of how
trying to get our own answers from the investigators
resulted in unwillingness to respond to our simple,
reasonable inquiry." ...

COMMENT ON THIS SITUATION

What do you think about having the First Amendment Police
knocking on your door for the high crime of asking questions
in defense of gun rights? We'd love to hear from as many
people as possible.

O'Reilly is a moron. He's against a lot of gun freedom, but packs a gun, himself. He's for homo unions and says homo marriage doesn't bother him. He's for legalizing marijuana and is against the death penalty. What a pinhead.

Got a reply back from Mr. Codrea asking about if I could copy parts of his letter to send to SF re: my vacation plans and maybe not coming to their city......

Thank you, Mr. XXXXX,

Yes, the response has been overwhelming—only a few are mad at me. I have sent the letter to various conventional media outlets, but the play seems to be exclusively internet, where it’s getting a lot of forwards.

Before you do, and of course you may (thanks for asking), you should know that this resulted in an ongoing investigation of me by the SFPD, who had an inspector call and question me, and sent two local black and whites to my home. So you might not want to put yourself through that. We’ll be doing a detailed report on this on www.Keepandbeararms.com – it will probably get posted today.

Thanks again for taking the time to send me a kind word. I appreciate it.

David

Speak out and be harassed......
This sounds like an Equal Protection issue to me...and 1st Amendment .
Maybe if they got a few thousand of these....

It's too bad, up until he started ranting about assault weapons and kept referring to "a flood of machine guns on the street" I kind of enjoyed watching the show.

And he said it like it was a bad thing

SteveW13

He's against a lot of gun freedom, but packs a gun, himself.
Do you have a cite for that?

From his bio HERE

Raised in a working class family in the huge housing subdivision of Levittown, New York, Bill O'Reilly has stayed close to his roots. He still lives on Long Island and his best friends are neighborhood guys. But education sparked O'Reilly's career.
He's for legalizing marijuana
BULL! He has had several guests who are pro-legalization and has lambasted all of them for their views.

Where do you get this stuff????
