Just bought my first 1903 Colt pocket hammerless, type 1, made in 1906. :D How does one identify an original magazine? The mag that came with the pistol looks like its the same age/wear wise but has zero markings that I can see.

A type 1 mag is probably all blue, not two tone like the later ones. It should have two tiny cross pins in the base that run side to side, through the floorplate, and will NOT have the calber makings or Colt markings. If it has those two, flush ground pin spots (you have to look close, maybe even with a magnifying glass to see them clearly), then it is probably a true Colt made mag. Later mags were marked with caliber, to differentiate between the .32 and later .380 (in 1908), and the two tone came along later for heat treament changes.

Thank you Sharpsdressedman! I do see those pins.

I forgot to add, the baseplate is completely unmarked, later mags will have Colt .32acp with and without a rampant horsey.
Aftermarket mags are easily identified by their much longer baseplate tab or signs of grinding and are welded, not pinned. HTH
