Origional Remington 1863 Pocket with 2nd Cylinder

Every once in a while there arises the old argument, were 2nd cylinders for percussion revolvers used. I don't know the answer but there is an 1863 Remington Pocket 31 on GunAuction now with a second fitted cylinder. I don't know how to tell whether it was used at the time or something someone just added later. I have no involvement in the auction, just when I saw the ad I remembered the 2nd cylinder question. The condition of the 'spare' cylinder does not anywhere close to matching the wear on the revolver. I'd say that,while it may be fitted to the frame (or just fits in the frame), it is no where near matching and was probably an extra cylinder that was found somewhere, is being included to get rid of it, and was never used with the frame.

Last summer I bought an original Remington New Model .44 that came with two extra cylinders (not online - at a shop). One cylinder has Italian proof marks, the other has none. One fits but will not rotate, the other fits and rotates but hangs up. The sale also included 16 extra nipples, none of which fit the gun. The extra cylinders and nipples did not effect the price - the shop owner just wanted to get rid of them.
Anyone need an extra Remington cylinder? I just want to get rid of them.

Remington Pocket .31 second cylinder

New to the forum, glad to be here. I was searching for information on a Remington and Sons New Model Pocket .31 cal and found this thread. I have one in fair condition with a second cylinder. It was a family heirloom. Interestingly the second cylinder fits perfectly and is chambered for rimfire ammo. There is a cap that fits over the butt end of the cylinder to hold the ammo in place. it looks to be a matched set of cylinders to the gun. I'm looking for any info I can find to try and determine value. Look at the photo closely of the top cylinder and you'll notice serrations on the edge of the removable cap that holds the rim fire cartridges in place. Love to hear from anyone with info. Thanks

Most of these guns came with conversion cylinders from the factory.
