I will be in Orlando for a few days for flight training and want to go to a range to to a little shooting after class. Any suggestions on where to go? I will be staying near the airport. Looking for pistol and maybe trap shooting.

Thanks!

drdirk,

There are two or three indoor ranges within 10 minutes drive around there. I went to one that is north and west of the airport. I can't remember the name of the place, but it was small and somewhat dingy. They catered to foreign tourists who want to shoot a gun for the first time.

There used to be a really nice range across from the water park on International Blvd. It was shut down the last time I visited. Check the yellow pages under "shooting range" when you get to Orlando.

will check it out

Thanks guys, will check it out and report back what I find. Often when I travel I check out the local gun ranges. Always interesting. Some good, some bad. Went to a range in CA once where the week before a guy shot himself with a rental gun.

Closest to the airport would be Oakridge range, I'm pretty sure that's the one Fly320s was talking about.
Great bunch of friendly guys.
If you do a search here for Oakridge or Free range day you should find a link for a free day pf shooting there

Riegs is another close by
not so friendly staff but a good range

East Orange is run by incompetent spawns of Satan and will never see my shadow darken their door again

Directions
Take 528 to Orange Blossom trail head north pass the strip clubs and hookers to Oakridge Road ( there's a McDs on the northwest corner ) turn right to go to Oakridge Gun Range about a mile down on the right. It's in the same lot as a auto mechanic and I believe the building is bright white with red trim.

To go to Riegs go straight abut another mile or two and Riegs is on the left
A puke green run down looking building with a crappy parking lot next to a scary looking run down bar.

If you think you might get lost or need to borrow a gun PM me for a nextel or cell number
I work and live close enough to the airport

thanks joab!

Thanks for the detailed directions. I have a FL non resident CCL and will bring my own gun (as I do mostly).

I enjoy going to different ranges in different parts of the country, meeting different shooters. Funny thing is, for the most part the shooters are not all that different. Meet some great guys in CA at a range, easy going and not what one would expect form such a "gununfriendly" place.

Hey, going to the range keeps me sharp, gives me something to do. Better than watching TV in some hotel or hanging in a bar... cheaper too!

You can also rent class 3 at Oak Ridge unlike Riegs. Its a little cramped in the range area when you start letting loose though. Joe
