The worst musical numbers in Oscar history (p285)

1959-
The show actually ends 20 minutes early. Host Jerry Lewis waltzes around the stage while the orchestra tries to kill time, and is eventually joined by the likes of Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman, Natalie Wood, Robert Wagner, Bob Hope and Zsa Zsa Gabor, all dancing as if they're at a wedding reception. As time drags on and the audience wanders out, many of the couples onstage began to exit as well, leaving Lewis to try such lame schick as conducting the orchestra like a madman and hitting sour notes on a trumpet. Finally, mercifully, NBC cuts to an instructional film about handguns.

:what:

An instructional film about handguns??? On NBC???

The Academy Awards Show is the world's most expensive, glitzy, in-poor-taste, self indulgent industry trade show ever staged.

Plus, it's also very left wing.

I think it depends on the year, or maybe the decade. They had quick draw contests at the Sands in Vegas every year back in the '60s and lots of celebs belonged to local clubs and took lessons. I've always read that Lewis was first, Davis was second and Dean Martin was third.

Somewhere on-line are clips of movies showing Lewis' and Davis' gun twirling skills - over the shoulder tosses, spins into the holster, the whole nine yards.
__________

"According to the "Fastest Gun Who Ever Lived," Bob Munden, Davis was the second-fastest draw in Hollywood, trailing only Jerry Lewis. Davis presented Munden with a customized Colt Peacemaker in recognition of Munden's skill after they appeared together on "The Mike Douglas Show" (1961).

Father of Tracey Davis, who co-wrote the book: "Sammy Davis Jr.: My Father" with Delores Barclay."

"It's Sinatra's world, we just live in it." - Dean Martin
