Our Great President

Would also be cool if he hadnt wiped his hiney on the Constitution, though.

I'm not trying to excuse any of GWB's actions, but name one President who hasn't violated the Constitution, in one way or another.

I think on average he is doing a pretty good job. The only way to get a president that does everything the way I like it is for the country to elect me president. Feel free to write me in. :)

So when he said he thought Campaign Finance Reform was probably unconstitutional, but then signed it into law anyway, you still think he is doing a good job?

How can one justify signing what they think is unconstitional into law?

If thats what he thought, then it makes even less sense. He is the sworn defender of the Constitution.

With his own mouth, he stated the following when he took office:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States

If he personally felt a law was unconstitutional, then he violates that oath by signing it, regardless what the Supreme Court may or may not think.

There is a quotation I'm desperately trying to find. I remember it clearly.

Joseph Farah just came out and flat out said he can not support Bush for re-election. Reason being is his contempt for the constitution.

Farah recounted an encounter he had with candidate Bush before the first election. He asked Bush, "Are you willing to sign an unconstitutional law?"

Bush responded, "How would I know if it was unconstitutional?"

If my recollection is clear (and I think it is) and if the exchange really did take place, then that one little factoid puts a lot into crystal clear perspective. Would it have changed how I voted? Most likely not, but it would have dramatically shortened the time I gave Bush to prove himself.

"How would I know if it was unconstitutional?"
The difference between Bush and Kerry is that Kerry's answer would be "Absolutely!".

How come no one blames congress for passing an unconstitutional law in the first place?

Bush responded, "How would I know if it was unconstitutional?"
That sounds like the appropriate reponse for a great many bills that pass through Congress, i.e., they are not clearly covered by the Constitution. Not, mind you, that their Constitutionality can't be determined through an exhaustive bit of analysis, but things are rarely so crystal clear as you would imply.

Harry Truman...

Was the last good Democrat president. Come up with his equal, and I'll buy in.

I had the good fortune to get a private viewing of his gun collection some years ago, and an awful lot of the handguns bore dark wood grips with a pearl "HST" inlaid into them. He had machineguns, too and not just subs. Belt fed, heavy MG's. Think ol' John Friggin Kerry would keep that stuff around for 5 minutes? Not a chance. Ted and Chuckie and Diane and Sarah wouldn't like it. His campaign money might dry up, to the tune of six mil from Al Gore. No thanks- sell it to somebody else.

Show me another HST, and I'll vote Democrat. Until then, all the Ted Kennedy wanna-be's can go suck an egg as far as I'm concerned.

Hell, I doubt that even Harry would vote Democrat today.

My criticism of Bush should not be misconstrued to mean I think the Democrats are better. The problem is that Bush and other neo-conservatives have taken the Republican party on a decidely left turn.

Hell, I doubt that even Harry would vote Democrat today

I think you are right, but I also think John F. Kennedy wouldn't either. I think JFK is at least as "conservative" as Bush.

Lone sez...

... and I find myself in agreement on all counts. WHAT is this world coming to?:what:

The U.S. has hired 9 of the top legal minds in America to review the laws enacted by congress and they cannot even agree on what is or is not constitutional.
A good manager surrounds himself with people who can do their jobs and then leaves them to it.
Sounds like Dub has the right philosophy here

I'll take "False Dichotomies" for $300, Alex... ;)

How come no one blames congress for passing an unconstitutional law in the first place?

Oh, but I do! Congress for passing it, the prez for signing it, and the Supremes for upholding it. There ain't hardly a person inside the beltway anymore who doesn't think that the Federales can do as they please without regard to any musty old pieces of parchment.

Well what a couple of pics will do.................

I agree that Bush is not as far to the Right as I would like him. That is much Better than far left coming to center for the election then back to left.
I'll keep him, hell uvalot better than we could have:uhoh:
Thanks for the comments,
Tony:cool:
