Well i got myself an EAA saiga on saturday and have been itching to shoot it. but we have had so much ran latley that our range flooded. I went to shoot yesterday and couldn't even get in the driveway because a creek had taken the drive. I was very nervous as to the condition of the range itself because of there being a river on the backside of it. So i went back today to see what it was like. Luckily no damage to the buildings. Unfortunatly the rifle range and skeet fields were still flooded. The trap fields had a huge valley dug thru the middle. So hopefully she can be up and running soon!

Easy to tell wind direction and speed. Do target checks with a boat and motor and not have to do all that walking.

Well, our range at West End Gun Club is in the burn area above Fontana CA, and 8 inches of rain over the holidays have left about 3 dozer/loader days worth of mud and rock filling half the bays and several dozen 6-8 ton boulders blocking the roadway in. We hope to be reopened by this next weekend, though - no real damage to any structures, they just need to be dug out.

plastic milk jugs make good floating targets!

if nobody was around I would throw some plastic milk jugs or laundry
detergent jugs out there! they make excellent floating targets to use for
blasting away! and the effects make it even more fun! I wouldnt let that
puddle of water stop me from testing out my new gun.:D

Which range is this, and where at?
Fairfield Sportsman Assosiation in Southwest Ohio

Time to raise a motion for drainage work at the next members' meeting.
Actually flooding usually ins't a problem. we had a HUGE rainstorm. The river is approxamitly 500 yards behind those trees. During the storm the range was part the the HUGE rushing river. it's a wonder our targets are still out there.

That's the thing, no "range closed" signs had been put up so i started unpacking the truck. Then right when i put my earplugs in one of the range saftey officers came and put them up.:banghead:

When I was a yute, I would go to the driving range and smoke some golf balls. When the range officer guy would drive his tractor (fenced in) around to collect the balls , he was fair game.

Probably wouldn't work as well with a Range officer in a canoe. :cuss:

Funny thing, my first job in HS was working as a "cart attendant" at a local golf course. the driving range was the large pond 50-60 yards to the left front of the clubhouse/snackbar (our range balls were marked "Floater"), when it was needed (the prevailing winds drove most of them into colection area on one shore) Ball retrevial was done in the head greenskeeper's johnboat....

for reasons of safety this operation was NEVER done with the range "open". seems the temptation was just too great for TOO many people.....

heck we couldn't even go out and collect the stays that wound up on the first fairway (which ran paralell to the right hand shore of the "range") without some Jerk(s) trying to bounce one off our (unprotected) cart!!

Hmmmm . . . a flooded range . . . anybody else thinking "decoys and a good duck call"?

We had our range closed once when some idjit shot some tracers over the berm, and set the woods on fire! It came around both sides of the range, but luckily didn't burn anything but the trees. Actually, we were hoping it would get the outhouse . . .

well now all the water has frozen so it's a big ice rink. who knows when i will be able to shoot my new gun.
