Okay, I've just been shot in the foot. My son and I are planning a hunt in Wisconsin this November. Rather than carrying our guns with us on Delta, and trying to avoid the destructive handling of the airlines personnel, we planned to ship them by UPS. So, I stopped by UPS to make sure this is no problem. New policy. All firearms must be shipped FFL to FFL. Where do I go from here? Any ideas?

I have heard that United breaks guitars, but maybe they are better with guns.

I ran into a guy at the range, a fireman, who knew the advantages and disadvantages of each Western state.

That is because we are in WA state, where an ordinary licence and tag on public land gets you into the 5% chance of getting a deer.

I leave WA state to hunt.
I can shoot about one deer per windless day where I go.
I usually watch TV for a couple days waiting for the wind to stop, or the snow to stop, or the mud to dry out.

I have found in the past that:
Mule deer, I have shot 11 of them, as they hold still for me to shoot them.
Elk, I miss and miss and miss, because they are moving.
Whitetail, I miss and miss and miss, because they are moving.
antelope, I miss and miss and miss, because they are moving.

I will drive 2,000 miles round trip with a mule doe tag, a white tail doe tag, and an either sex antelope tag in October.

I am very likely to fill that mule doe tag the first day the wind stops blowing. I have hit a mule doe in a 13 mph wind at 400 yards, but I had to aim 2' up wind.

If they are long guns you can send them U.S. mail.

UPS has not changed their requirements on their website. It is possible that whoever you talked to doesn't know their policy. Also, they have always required that they be shipped form a real UPS center, not a UPS store, etc.

The lady I talked to was at a real UPS center. She said it used to be we could send long guns without an FFL, but not anymore. Now it must be FFL to FFL. I was planning on sending the guns directly to the outfitter.

Try the post office. I have mailed several long guns and had no problems.

I sent my rifle to an outfitter last year about this time UPS. The only problem they had was that I needed to put my ammo in a box with my gear instead of in the case with the rifle, and they even gave me the cutter and tape to change it.

It's good to know they have changed, will save me a trip.

I have shipped UPS ground before, but I have found Fedex Ground to be cheaper. As mentioned, USPS also works

Central Fl to WI is a 2 day drive at most

just fedex them to yourself at the place you are going.make sure you both have the hunter education classes fre from fwc just in case wisconsin requires them.you should do it anyway.available monthly.sat and sunday class

trying to avoid the destructive handling of the airlines personnel

Peli case or Storm case. My 2/3 gun Storm case w/ pressure valve has survived over half a dozen flights and so have the guns in it. After switching to Storm I haven't needed to adjust the scope at the destination while sighting in, it seems to absorb impacts quite well.

It's ugly, it's black and it's big and heavy, but it has wheels and so far it has been nearly indestructible. I wish my Samsonite was equally tough, South African Airlines crushed it so badly last year that I literally had to open it with a crowbar and close it with duct tape for return flight.

It would probably be very adequate but it doesn't look like it has wheels. If you're going to get yourself through an airport, you'll probably be taking:

1. A personal item like a camera.

2. A carryon item like a back pack.

3. A gun case.

4. A suit case.

Having wheels on both the suit case and the gun case makes it relatively easy.
It has recessed wheels... shows them if you click on additional views :)

I don't see this on UPS' website. From: http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/re...nes/firearms.html?srch_pos=1&srch_phr=firearm

UPS accepts packages containing firearms (as defined by Title 18, Chapter 44, and Title 26, Chapter 53 of the United States Code) for transportation from and between licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, and licensed collectors (as defined in Title 18, Chapter 44 of the United States Code), law enforcement agencies of the United States (or of any department or agency of the United States), law enforcement agencies of any state or department agency (or political subdivision of any state), from and between persons not otherwise prohibited from shipping firearms by federal, state or local law, and when such shipment complies with all federal, state and local laws applicable to the shipper, recipient, and package.

If you are a person not otherwise prohibited from shipping firearms by federal, state, or local law, you should be good to go. Sounds to me like the person you were speaking with didn't know their own regulations.

Pelican/Storm Cases preferably WITH the pressure valve if you have optics. I highly doubt that would be a signifigant pressure change to damage anything but why risk it.

If its govt propery and its expensive it has a storm/pelican case. For good reason, they are that good-
