I just switched to a Raven Concealment Systems OWB kydex holster and I love it! I've only been seriously carrying now since June and had been carrying my HK USPc 9mm in a bladetech IWB. It was ok but I could only wear it with one pair of jeans I owned that happened to be a little loose. While it was still warm here in WA I found myself not carrying it anyway as it was prone to printing and I carried my P7 IWB instead which is fine and will continue to do so in warm weather when I'm only wearing a tshirt (yes with pants!). Now the weather is getting back to the usual cold and rainy so I'm switching back to my USPc. Read alot about the raven and got it recently. I havent tried it IWB yet and doubt I will as OWB is great. I can wear it with any pair of pants I already own and with a cover garment is easy to hide. Also I noticed retention is better. The pistol kinda "clicks" in very positively. With my bladetech if I turn it upside down and shake it will fall out. Anyway felt like spreading the love :) .

You know about a month or so ago I was walking by Wright Park and I passed someone OC'ing a 1911 at about the 1 or 2 oclock position. It kinda surprised me. Later that day I found opencarry.org and got clued in to the whole thing. Not for me, at least not yet.

i OWB with a over shirt or jacket when the weather allows. it is so much more comfortable

I haven't carried OWB yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Once I find the right deal on a Milt Sparks setup it'll be mine. I currently carry using a MS VMII IWB and I absolutely love it, but like you some of my jeans are too tight to fit it.

Funny you saw another THR member :)

KHYRON,
This is completely OT but I must state it for the record.
Your username and sig line...brilliant. I love it. It's good to see a fellow Robotech fan.

Yes. Yes, it does. 100 times more comfortable than IWB, and you don't have to buy differently-sized pants. Either way you need a covering garment, so I don't see the appeal of IWB over a very-high-ride OWB.

I wish open carry was tolerated in MO. Legal, but seems to be frowned upon by cops that don't read all the fine print. And I really don't want to have to explain myself everytime someone wants to claim it's illegal.

Probably will be carrying shoulder holster in winter, pocket gun in summer. CCW is 23 here, so I got a few months to go.

I agree

I have two holsters IWB and OWB, VMII and Axiom, that carry similarly in regards to their ride height. However, in my opinion, the Axiom blows the VMII away in regards to comfort. The Axiom could remain in place all day long while the VMII could sag. I'm not certain if this difference is typical of all IWB vs. OWB holsters or just these two specific models. As a sidenote, with the mention of jeans being too tight, some jean companies (i.e. Joe's jeans) incorporate 1 to 2% spandex material. I've found that it helps with IWB comfort.

I am wearing a FIST OWB right now, I have had bad luck finding an OWB holster (off the shelf choices) that didn't seem to hold the gun out away from my body, making it nearly impossible to conceal without a very baggy cover garment like a sweatshirt. This one holds the PCR very close, and is comfortable as can be.

All I need for IWB is an un-tucked T or baggy hawaiian style shirt. I don't wear any other cover garment in the south Texas heat/humidity. I don't fancy heat stroke. And, I'd look kinda stupid with a coat on, anyway. I don't like wearing a coat indoors like in a restaurant, either, usually take it off even if I'm in the snow belt. Mostly, I pocket carry, much more comfy and convenient. I carry 9mm +P which I feel is plenty and I can hit well with it. And I can walk though a dark parking lot with my hand on the gun in a pocket, which I like. Pocket carry works best for ME by a long shot over either OWB or IWB. My only option with a big gun is IWB, though. OWB just doesn't work in the south unless you have to wear a business suit. Even then, business men I know do without the jacket a lot when the temp is up. I'd get an expensive business suit pretty dirty on my job rolling around under greasy tractors and such. :D

OWB is indeed awesome. Even more awesome is letting everyone see what's on your waist (even though 90+ percent won't notice). Next you should try a thigh rig (if you legally can)

I do not find a OWB any harder to concel than a IWB IF, The OWB is a quality pancake. These generally position the gun high and to the waist.

It does require a little higher draw, but it is just a lot more comfortable to me that a IWB holster. And my IWBs where Milt Sparks.
