I was given a catalogue from Atlanta Cultlery Corp., and in it they advertise genuine P-1853 muskets for $250. There is also a Martini Henry short lever M-1878 for $275.

They are sold "as Found", rusty and dusty. a good project gun.

The companies web site has other historic pieces for sale as well. many look like they could be fired.

Just thought I'd let you all know.:)

the web site www.atlantacutlery.com

Its worth a look.

Khyberpass?

A word of caution for those not knowing.
In the Khyberpass, Pakistan, there are gunsmiths that reproduce low quality imitation guns like the Martini Henry rifles, and many more anique models, Sniders and maybe P1853's as well. These so called Khyberpass Specials have reported to be unsafe to fire.

I do not know if that is the case here, maybe I'm over carefull.

Just google khyber pass special or so, and read.

I bought a P1853 musket from IMA, Atlanta Cutlery's sister store.

Got the musket several months back, and it is repairable. However, some of these old guns are pretty far gone. While the one I received had issues, mostly with the stock, some have received strictly wall-hangers.

IMA advertised these as pretty much wall-hangers anyway.

I have my P53 about 75% repaired, with the worst problems adressed. Just been too busy lately to finish it up and try a modest charge or two from it.

I read the article on the khyber pass firearms, and it was quite eye opening. I had no idea that such a thing was being done.
There is even an article about a Martini Henry Khyber pistol.

I think I'll hold off buyin till I see one up close.

Sometimes its better to see what you're getting before buying.

I believe those guns are from the "Nepal Cache" and mostly english made or made in india under English supervision. There may be some phoneys there, and my info is second hand, but some folks seem to be very happy with their purchases. I'm sure not all are,it probably depends on which guns you order. It could be too that the pickings are getting slim and they are scraping the bottom of the "cache's" barrel. They have been selling from it for quite a while now.

I just received a copy of Atlanta Cutlery's catalog. Not only did they have the old rusty Enfield muskets up for grabs, they also have original Sniders and Martini-Henrys, also from the Nepal storage arsenal. Very badly rusted though.
