P220 Compact Magazine Opinions Please

Boba Fett, I must've had a brain fart; I responded yesterday to your mag question. Was it on another thread? The 245 and P220 Compact mags are basically the same, other than the stamp on the side of the mag. Both are made in Italy. www.topgunsupply.com is a good place to look for them. I have 5 mags for my P220 Compact; 3 are stamped 245. You also mentioned the extended mags on the Sig site. I haven't seen them anywhere else and I do not own any.

No, you remembered correctly. I did post something about the P220 Compact magazines earlier. I was asking about the compatibility of P220 Compact and P245 magazines.

What I am asking now is what people think of the X-Grip. Is it safe? Does it really work well? Is it complete junk with plastic so inferior it wouldn't be seen on a Nerf gun? That sort of thing.

THEN, I am wondering how the X-Grip and the P245 extended magazine would compare. Is it basically the same thing? Is the X-Grip basically a copy of the P245 extended mag concept? Or does Sig actually make their extended magazine in a superior fashion that would out perform a 8 round Sig mag with an X-Grip on it.

I'll start with the long winded question for better clarity next time ;)

Appreciate the feedback none the less uncle.

I owe you an apology. Got home late after a long day and got online...
I had done a pretty thorough search a while back, looking for different grips for the Compact for no special reason and did not find anything but original grips. I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone contributes.

After rereading your post, I got online and compared the blownup picture of the 245 extended mag on the Sig site with one of my 245 mags. It is exactly the same except for the bottom portion. It has the 2 slots on the front side and the ⅝" vertical line running down fom the top. Now you have me wondering if I should look into an extended mag.

No apology necessary uncle ^_^

I did look at topgunsupply.com as you suggested. They have some good stuff there and I managed to find this 10 Round Magazine for the P220 Compact. Which is actually just a 10 round Sig magazine with this sleeve on it.

I've heard that using a 10 round mag in the P220 Compact can potentially cause problems or that the 10 round mags fail to feed after a few rounds.

So in addition to my OP, what is everyone's opinion on the 10 round mags with these sleeves? Good idea, bad idea? Problem for the P220 Compact?

Thge 10RD magazine will work in a P245 or P220 Compact, but even with the sleeve, it will show the magazine. The X-Grip is the exact part used by SIG to make the 8RD P245/P220 Compact magazines.

Pardon the resurrection

Blame it on Google.

I own a P220ST and a P245. I found a good deal on the extended mag for the P245/P220c and bought one. I pulled the adapter off to look and as Top Gun Supply (great dealer BTW!) said it is actually a P220 8 rd mag (standard markings) with an X-Grip.

I have a question about the P220 compact mag. Reading an article by Michael Bane, http://www.downrange.tv/artman2/publish/drtvarticles/86.shtml
and then later in the downrange TV forum;

Michael Bane:
The mags on the 220 Compact have a slighly different basepad on them, redesigned by Ethan Lessert, SIG's ace weapons deisnger, that allow me to get a lull grip with my little finger, which solves a lot of the problem I had with the 245...suprisingly small amount of different when the 2 mags are laid side by side...

Has anyone tried the P220 compact mags with the new basepad on a P245? Has anyone else noticed a significant difference? I have 6rd, 7rd, 8rd and 10 rd mags for these guns already. Do I need to buy one (or two!) more mags??

I always just used my P245 mags in the gun when carrying it and used my standard 8 round P220 mags for the reload. If I wanted the extra capacity in the gun, I'd just carry my P220. Why make the P245 bigger, isnt the whole point of them to be compact?

....AK103K , if you are going to keep on using common sense, we aren't gonna play with you anymore......HA.....

The eight round is the reload. I'm not sure I get your point.
The new mags are 6 round with a different base. Still P245 size...just a better design.

I never noticed the P245 mags or grip were "short", and anything that makes them "bigger" seems senseless to me, as its the purpose of the gun to be shorter. Same goes for adding the beavertail. But thats just me. Even with the somewhat shorter grip, I actually shoot my P245 better than I do my P220's.

My point as to modifying the 8 rounders with the X-Grip base is, why modify a mag that will work in both, to one that will now only work in one? Your just shorting yourself. The P220 mags work fine as is in the P245's for a reload.

Well, that seems to be the definitive answer to that. Thanks for your advice.

I have 2 of the 10 rnd mags amd although I've only used them once Ihad no problems whatsoever.

But I am curious to hear what you've heard about them.

Thanks Ken
