Pros and Cons
As other posters have pointed out, the P229 is an excellent gun. I have one in .40 caliber that I have carried, and it is reliable and accurate, with good grip ergonomics and a smooth trigger.
The only downside of the P229 for CCW is that it is somewhat thicker and heavier than some of the alternatives. If you compare it to other .40 caliber guns like the Glock 23, Walther P99 or Kimber Pro Carry in .40, the P229 is several ounces heavier and noticeably thicker through the slide. While this extra weight is an advantage when shooting the gun, it can start to feel heavy on the belt after carrying it for 8 hours. I find that I would rather carry my Glock 23 all day, but I feel I can shoot the P229 somewhat better. So its a tradeoff for me.
