Obviously...that is not correct
It sounds like he confused the Sig P230/232 series with the HK P7/P7M8 series. The P7 (and PSP) had a heel release, but the P7M8 sports a release in the American position.

Interestingly enough, the P7 is about the same size as the P232, carries more rounds, and the rounds are 9mm. If I was allowed to carry my P7, I would faaaaaaar prefer it to the P232, pretty much for those reasons (and the sweet trigger).

That said, I like my P232 as well.

Fascinating. I never made that correlation.

I'd be ecstatic with the P7 of the P7M8. But I need my kidneys and can't seem to get enough money just selling plasma. :D

I carry either a P232 or P7 PSP (depending on my mood), and I can vouch that they are very similar in "carriability". The only difference is in the weight, as the P7 is a good bit heftier. Both guns are excellent CCW choices.

Yeah, I was sitting there one day, fiddling with the P7 and stewing about the fact that my PD would not approve it for OD carry. I was thinking, "you know, this is almost as small as my P232." And you know? It is. I forget the exact dimensions, but it is REALLY close.

I posted this in the Sig thread as well but I am so happy with it, I just had to show off my new baby here too. Bought her on Thursday. Took her out to the range on Friday. Here is a picture of the first shots out of this gun:

This was at 20 yards (the closest our gun range allows). This is by far the most accurate little gun I have shot right out of the box. I was surprising myself with each shot. This is my first sig and I am very happy. :)

I remember reading that minor redesign and designation from 230 to 232 based on .32 acp req't for Japanese police agencies. Maybe the .380 wasn't adequate or perhaps it was too much power or too few rounds? I've never seen a 232 in .32acp. I think Marko wrote something about it in a thread back in 2003 or 04. Manual safety as well as a lanyard loop?

I'd like to see a side by side comparison, range report, etc between a PPK, CZ83 and SIG 232 some day. Maybe throw in a Colt .380 for grins and snickers since it operates differently (locked breech vs blow back).

There was a P230 in .32 as you describe. I passed on one a couple of years back that was $400. Wish now I grabbed it, as I havent seen one since and of course now I want one. :)

Ask and you shall recieve...

My PPK experience is from a while ago but as I remember the gun was accurate enough, easy to conceal, well made of excellent quality, with the worst DA trigger I'd ever used. The SA trigger was fine. I did carry for a short time. I'd rate them a B+.

The CZ 83 is a pretty good gun overall. They are more accurate than expected, reliable, have decent sights and no huge drawbacks. They are however heavy, heavier than any other in your list. Rated B.

The Sig P232 is a very nice CCW. It features a slim profile, good trigger in DA or SA, excellent accuracy, and one of the most natural pointers out there. Night sights available and that's a plus. The profile is very clean with only the decocker lever and it is very close to the grip. Available in alloy/steel, alloy/stainless, or stainless/stainless with several grip options. You can "have it your way". Takes a good effort to rack the slide and some may find it too hard. Rate it A.

Had the oppotunity to shoot the little Colt last week so the experience is slight but my impression is that it was a perfect size, had mild recoil, useless sights, small magazine capacity (6) and was not very accurate. Ishot my Seecamp better than the Colt. That aspect was very disappointing. Because they are very expensive I rate the Colt a B-.

The Beretta 84/85 is also a "A" as well as the hard to find Sphinx AT380.
