My Dad picked up a new p345 a month ago. He has put around 150 rounds through it so far with no glitches. Then yesterday at the range he hands it to me with a full mag. I fire 2 shots and then .....click....nothing. I ejected the bullet and in went another.....click nothing....I eject that one and it slaps another one in......click.....nothing..... I thought this was very strange so I remove the mag and the unpent shell in the chamber. I hand it back and we look it over wondering if the firing pin broke as we could not see it nor were there any dimples on the primers...... I let him tend to it while I continue to fire from my XD45 and then move on the the bad ass S&W 500. Then he comes up along side of me and fires a full mag from his 345. I look aver and he is just as amazed as I was. He slapped another mag in and empties it with no problems. So I ask you guys what could have been the problem? He just just look at this gun the same way......will it ever happen again, it is treally reliable? Yes these bullets were a factory round and from the same box I was firing with my XD. What do you guys think?

Thanx,
Mike

maybe its got burrs or just dirty crud near the firing pin or anywhere inside.
that's got to suck when you really need to use it. :scrutiny:

The mag disconnect is broke. Dry firing without a magazine, is what Ruger's gonna tell ya what caused it. Call Ruger, and tell them to send you a repair tag for shipping, so you wont have to pay, they reimburse you on shipping if you do pay. I've heard you can "clean under the rear sight" and fix the problem, but I dont know if you can unless the gun is fixed. Sorry about your luck, but its a common failure with all the safety features on this gun. Check on the Ruger Forum for the fix, I just reread your post, and I see the gun still shoots. Good luck! This is a great gun, dont loose faith!

Just in case it's related: a few months ago, I bought two Rugers. One was a new P-90 (45 ACP). Reliably worked for about 400 or 500 rounds. Then, one day, it went click. Checked the mag - it was properly inserted. Slide was fully forward. Dropped the mag, racked the slide, and out popped a previously fully chambered round without any marks on the primer. Forget light hits, this was a no-hit. This was from a gun that was thoroughly cleaned (including firing pin and channel) after each range trip. Crud? Didn't see any but maybe. But why only this gun? Anyway, I won't own a click gun. Sold it. (My theory based on wild guessing was this gun had an overly large chamber that wasn't permitting ball ammo brass to fully expand, thus permitting more crud to go backwards into the area of the firing pin. But that's only a theory.)

Welcome to the brave new world of firearms and your new job, brought to you by the firearms industry and global competition. Its called the race to the bottom.

How many corners can the maker cut to remain competitive in price and still make a profit.

Your new job is firearms reliability tester. It used to be that the factory did this to make sure they were sending out a working gun/design. Actual gunsmiths fitted parts and performed function checks, making needed adjustments. Now its all CNC machining, and the luck of the draw, was you gun made when the tool in the machine was new?, or was it made when the tool was dull and worn??? Do the parts really fit?? Who cares??? Box em up and send em out.

Now the job of testing and quality control is up to you the consumer.

I don't like all the safety stuff on the new P345. I'm going to pass on that one for that reason. More crud you put on a gun, the more can go wrong, not to mention I NEVER saw the need nor the desireability of a magazine disconnect. If I bought a P345, I'd be looking to bypass that little feature.

My P90 goes bang every time! It's also amazingly accurate. I'll stick with it, love that thing.

I had a P345 and it was very problematic. I sent it in twice and it came back with the same problem, so on the third time I mailed it back I asked for a refund. They sent me my money back in full.
