Seriously considering selling off my Walther P99 for a Glock 19. I've had the Walther since December and just can't get to liking the single action trigger, it goes too far back before releasing. I like everytying else about the gun tho. The Glock trigger seems to "feel" perfect.

Would you made the change? Please explain why you would or wouldn't.

p99

Snap,
why dont you let me know if your p99 needs a home. Where are you located? How old is the gun? I will even look into trading you a new G19 for it.

I really like the P99, but the trigger on the Glock is definitely more consistant. Also, the availability of 15-rounders for the Glock would sway me towards the G19, if I had to pick one of the two.

The P99 has better ergonomics, though.

What Marko said. Except, I don't find the superior feel of the P99 to translate into superior performance in any way.

Whichever one shoots better.

I love my G34. Glocks with the factory 'minus' connector (the 34 comes so equiped stock) are awesome. Light enough for target work, yet still takes enough effort that I have no trouble carrying it.

G19 may be a step up in reliability too.

The glock trigger is far from perfect, but it is consistent. Having said that, I do love my G19. However, I've had feeding issues with JHP jamming on the last round. I've been told my followers are to blame, but haven't bought new ones yet.

Just holding a P99 in my hand feels more comfortable than any factory Glock I've held. The Glock trigger (esp with the Ghost Rocket) is far better than any P99 trigger I've ever tried.

I think I just have a lot more faith in the Glock than the Walther. And I'm not a Glock guy at all.:(

I've owned a P99 and have shot many Glocks. Both have been reliable except a 1st Generation Glock that was pretty dirty. I'd say keep the P99 and buy a used Glock.

I used to have both.
I seldom carry the P99 any more, because of it's size. I have found that carrying full size service pistols is just to much of a drag on my belt loops, if you catch my drift!! ;) My G19 became involved in a mercy trade with a friend. He bought a G29, thinking that one silly milimeter can't make THAT much difference!! He bought it for a home defensive pistol for his wife, since he was working nights at the time. When his wife fired it and told him to get something else, well... Needless to say, I now have a G29!!!!
The G19 is one heck of a pistol!! I wish I had it back!!
Anybody want to trade a G29 for a G19???

Also, the availability of 15-rounders for the Glock would sway me towards the G19,
What, 16 round P99 magazines don't count? I have 4 of them, and if you look around they can be had for reasonable prices.

I prefer the P99.............. but I aint you.
If you don't like the p99's trigger, get the 19, it's a good pistol as well.

The G19 was my first of many Glcok pistols that I've owned or still own. I bought it in '88 for $389.00 LE price.

It has litteraly thousands of rounds thur it. Ball, HPs of various designs, factory, reloads and even lead bullets. :what:

I wouldn't even venture a guess how many rounds my G19 has seen. I can count on one hand the number of times that it has malfunctioned with all of them being ammo related, not the fault of the pistol or magazine(s).

While working in LE and prior to my department transitioning over to the G19, I made mine available for test firing during a three consecutive day range session.

The pistol saw somewhere around 1500 rounds fired thru it. It was never cleaned or lubed [on purpose] and only wiped down externally each day and then thrown into my range bag. IT NEVER MALFUNCTIONED ONCE during that period even in the hands of LEOs that had never fired a Glock pistol previously. ;) Most had never seen a Glock in the flesh.

I have six 15 round original NDF Glock mags for it that have been rebuilt a couple of times.

It is with out a doubt, one of the best pistols in their line. I do not see myself ever parting with my G19 even though I rarely fire it any longer.

Personally I feel the G23, .40S&W same size pistol, is a better carry pistol due to the caliber but that is only a personal preference.

I carried an issue G19 for the last few years of my LE carrier and never felt out gunned while doing so.

I own and shoot four Walther P99 pistols. I have two in the military finish, green/black [one 9mmx19 and one .40S&W] two all black[one 9mmx19 and one .40S&W]. All four are of the traditional DA/SA trigger design. I wouldn't have any other.

In my opinion, the P99 DA/SA trigger is one of the best of its kind that I have ever fired and this includes pistols by SIG, S&W, Beretta and HK.

The P99 has the shortest trigger reset of any of the above that I can think of.

Granted, the P99 trigger may take some getting use to but so many fault the trigger without giving it a real chance.

The accuracy of both the 9mmx19 and the .40S&W is more than adequate for the intended purpose of the pistol. It was not designed as a bullseye pistol.

Many will fault the location of the de-cocker on the P99. I can't recall the last time I had to "speed de-cock" the P99 under pressure. Personally, I really like the clean look/design of the P99 de-cocker.

I don't have nearly as many rounds thru either of my P99 9mmx19 pistols that I do thru my G19 and may never have but, I would have to say that they are well on their way to being just as reliable.

Bottom line is that they are two different types of pistols intended for the same purpose. Both are well made, and completely reliable when cared for properly. Both will last you a long time.

My suggestion is to hang onto your P99, learn to master the trigger and find yourself a G19 also and enjoy them both.

Also, the availability of 15-rounders for the Glock would sway me towards the G19

I have eight 16 round full capacity mags, oops, I meant to say 15 round NJ compliant mags for my 9mmx19 P99s. Would these sway you also?

Would you made the change? Please explain why you would or wouldn't.

I think I've tried. :D

Thanks for all the responses, JimC is right, I should work with the Walther, I believe I'll be glad I did.

38snapcaps, I am a dyed in the wool Glock fan but I held a P99 today and to say I was impressed is an understatement. If I were in your shoes I would buy 1,000 rounds and shoot the P99 until I liked it. Regards, Richard :D

Richard-I think you're right!

I handled a Glock G-19 this afternoon and the more I did the more I realized the Walther is the best choice for me.

And you know what? Gander Mountain (where I was looking at the Glock) is having a big ammo sale starting tuesday. Yes sir, I think I'll follow your advice and buy that thousand rounds of ammo:)

I wouldn't mind a Walther P99 someday but I'd go with the Glock 19. It's a no nonsense gun that does what it's supposed to do. I'm hoping to be able to pick up one myself at some point in a 19, 26 and 30. Great guns. :)

Obviously, if you're given the Walther time and it doesn't feel right to handle it, it's probably time to make the plunge. You've already stated you like the way the Glock shoots -- I'd say you know what you want and should go for it.

I bought my first Glock about 4 years ago just because of the trigger. I'm satisfied - I still have the first one, plus five more (a back-up for me, one for the wife and each son).

The trigger is the same every time on every gun, they go boom when you pull the trigger, I can shoot any ammo reliably, and if I go 2000 rounds without cleaning, my glocks still love me.:)
