I am looking at a Walther p99 in 40 at Gander Mountain. The gun is NIB but at a clearenced price of 399.00. I went in for the M&P when I spotted the Walther. Never shot a Walther and looking for information and opinions. I do like the position of the mag release.

They look interesting. However I was looking at one of these a year ago. After I priced out a couple of extra magazines. I was so taken back at the price of the magazines for this unit, decided against it.

The P99 is a very high quality gun with excellent ergonomics (for me). The AS version has an unusual DA/SA trigger, but I like it. The AS also has a decocker and second-strike capability. The QA version has a consistent trigger pull more common to striker-fired pistols.

Magazine prices should not be a problem. CDNN sells new M&P magazines for $30, new SW99/P99 magazines (both guns use the same magazine) for $29, and SW99/P99 "demo" magazines that look new for $20.

I have one in .40 and it's one of my favorites. For $399, I'd grab it all day.

Excellent pistols.

+1 to the above. It has 3 interchangeable backstraps and feels great in the hand. Shoots good, too.

The sw99 mags even though discontinued will fit the p99

The same magazines fit both guns. The frames for the SW99 and P99 were both made by Walther; there is a Walther banner on the left side of the SW99 frame above the trigger guard and forward of the takedown button.
