P99 unpopular?

One of my wife's co:workers carries a P99. (Don't know if it's a QA or AS?) Anyway, she absolutely loves it and shoots a lot with it! I've heard it said - but have no personal experience to back it up - that you should go with the Walther and stay away from Smith's version.

I do like the way the P99 feels in the hand, though - Very nice design! :)

Coronach- I've heard it is one of their #1 sellers right now, if not THE #1. I doubt it'll be dropped any time soon. It is their bread n' butter.
Really? Are you sure you don't mean the M&P? M&Ps are selling like hotcakes, but I didn't think the Sigmas were, too.

Mike

PS Well, they did land a big contract with Afghanistan. I guess if you count that, it might be listed as a good seller. I dunno.

Are there any differences in the SMith and Wesson versions and the Walther ones? Specifically in 9mm?
First remember that all the new walther p99's have s&w marked on the slide, that doesn't mean they are s&w guns, just they are the importer.

The SW99 has a s&w made blackened stainless slide, the p99 has a walther made carbon steel slide.

The SW99 was discontinued at the end of 2005. It was the eqivalent of the P99 A/S. The SW990L was made at least thru the end of 2006. They might still be made, but they are dropped from the 2007 S&W print catelog. The SW990L is similar to the P99 QA trigger.

I have both the SW99 and two P99s. The SW99 has melonite, which is the americanized version of Tennifer (what's on the Walther).

I had my SW99 first, as in the end of 2005, I had trouble finding a fullsize P99.It is a good gun. I like it a lot.

However, the barrel is a lot looser when the slide is open compared to the Walther. And, I find the Walther to be a tiny bit more accurate.

I'm fairly sure Joe Gun in Midland, MI has at least one. I might swing by there tomorrow, if you want I can check on the price for you. If they don't have one then I know Marshall's Shooting Center has one and I'm going there tomorrow after work so I can find out if you want.
