PA CCW reciprocacy in NJ, DE, MD, VA

I have a quick question concerning Pennsylvania citizens with PA CCW's.

Which of the following states accept PA CCW's:
New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia

The reason that I am curious is that I might be moving to the Allentown/Bethlehem area for work and would want to travel out to the New Jersey shore and Delaware beaches. I have relatives in Virginia and would need to travel through Maryland to get there.

I am a current CCW holder living in Pennsylvania and any leads/info is appreciated.

Forget about New Jersey and Maryland, unless you are very wealthy and very connected. A nonresident license from Florida or Utah will cover you in Virginia and Delaware.

Operating from memory here (that can be dangerous) but I believe no state bordering PA will recognize a PA permit because PA will not confirm the validity of the permit if called.

My suspicion that not many states recognize PA's permit is because the requirements may be much less stringent than many other states. For example, here in TN, you must take a training class, take a test, qualify with a handgun, and apply. There is the cost factor as well. PA's is pretty much apply and you get the permit unless you have a criminal record or other issues.

The business of confirming the validity of a permit to carry may also have something to do with it as well as mentioned above.

Florida isn't a whole lot different. You have to demonstrate evidence of firearms training. I submitted a photocopy of my DD-214.

I got OUT of the Army over 30 years ago, and while in I never qualified with any handgun. I'm not complaning, mind you, because the 2nd Amendment doesn't mention any prerequisites to the RKBA. But it does seem a bit silly for a state that doesn't think PA has strict enough criteria to recognize FL, when a 30-year old document that doesn't say anything is your proof of "training."

But PA permits are issued at the county level, so there is no central registry of license holders to consult. FL permits are issued by the state, so perhaps that is the real reason.

HB1717 passed recently in PA should help reciprocity

This bill recently passed should help reciprocity with those States looking for License verifiation like VA. Still no training required as per the 2nd amendment... so States looking for that will still not share reciprocity... until forced too.

Damn right. The PSP has shown a complete disregard for the law, and they cannot be trusted with a central registry.


It doesn't help that PA is surrounded by not very gun friendly states. NJ and NY being obvious. Maryland and Ohio are iffy.

Ironic, isn't it, that the laws which make obtaining a PA permit relatively painless have a great deal to do with limiting PA residents' rights in neighboring states?

PA's requirements are actually closer to pure 2A rights than other states, yet other state residents enjoy greater reciprocity ("rights") than PA residents. Sort of a "pick the set of rights you'd like" proposition.

I like PA's mindset, but it doesn't get me as much carry freedom as a state that maintains stricter requirements.

Many don't recognize PA due to 1. No central office to verify ( may be resolved soon) and
2. No training requirement.

UT gives you VA, OH, DE..................with PA and UT permits I'm good to go in 33 states or so.

You will have to pack it up for runs thru MD....don't even think of going to NJ---the beaches there suck anymore ( except for LBI).............Del is much nicer....carried the last few summers in both the Lewes/Henlopen, DE and Chincoteague, VA areas.

Don't even think about taking a gun to NJ. They have ZERO mercy/tolerance for law abiding folks with firearms in their state.
