Has anyone shot this model or own it? How about any comments on para-ord in general like customer service or warranty issuses? what would better carry piece the steel or alloy frame? is one stronger? sorry for all the question but I think about adding a second carry piece and i already have an auto.

I have a PO SSP, the full size steel model, and an LTC with an aluminum frame. Both look nice on the outside except for the mixed finishes. The SSP however, has large what I guess are casting marks underneath both grips. Both slide stop cutouts look like they were made by cutting down either side of the cutout and then working the resulting tab back and forth until it broke off. In other words neither has a smooth bottom surface to the cutout. The LTC has performed well so far. The SSP has had many failures to feed, failures to extract and problems with slide locking back with ammo still in mag. A Chip McCormick Powermag seems to have helped a lot with the FTFs and slide locks but I still have many failures to extract. Based only on my experience with the LTC, I might buy again but based on my experience with the SSP I wouldn't so there is a "definite maybe" for you. My experience with the SSP makes me suspicious of both guns however and especially of the new extractor design. I was going to replace some of the mixed stainless and nickel parts with blued parts but I could not even get standard guide rods to fit in either gun without some serious filing on the parts. That worries me about the interchangeability of other parts which is one the big things about getting 1911 type guns in the first place. When adding up the cost of both guns and the parts I was thinking about replacing, I realized I am over halfway to the price of a new Ed Brown.

I have an LTC that I purchased a few weeks ago. It is the one with the steel frame. I was really interested in the new extractor design, so that was the main reason I purchased it.

The cosmetics issue aside (I like the look, a lot of people don't), it has functioned for me flawlessly so far. I put another 100 rounds through it this last weekend, for a total so far of 650. It has never failed to feed, fire, or eject. I am still using the stock magazines with it, and they function perfectly too.

This is the first Para I have ever had. With this limited experience, I can't make good generaliztions about the brand, but so far, this pistol has been very nice. I obviously have not had to use the customer service facilities at PO, so no information there.

The only complaint I have, and it is nit-picking a little (but with no function issues to complain about, I have to find SOMETHING!) is that the grip safety is a little loose. It funtions fine, but has a little more play than any of my other 1911s.

I trust steel frames a little more than alloy. I think the general consensus is that they will last longer, but a good alloy frame will probably outlast you!
The main thing I think is weight -- the alloy will shave some ounces off if that is a concern for you. (It isn't for me -- I use good leather and belt, and never really noticed the weight one way or another -- YMMV).

Hope this helps.

thank you

Other than para ord LTC what else is out there? I am looking for a commander size 1911 that is no more the 600-900 dollars, if I spend that much I want to eat anything and be more accurate than my auto. I know that is may not seem like a lot of money for some people but this mostly a second carry piece. Unless it proves more accurate and relaible than my primary.

$600-900 should buy some really nice Kimbers and Colts all day long.
Also, what does "be more accurate than my auto" and "I already have an auto" mean? Do you mean auto as in Auto-ordnance or as in semi-automatic pistol in which case I am really confused.

I sorry I mean an semi(walther p99)

I already have a p99 but I want a second carry piece just incase on goes down. A 1911 with a 4 or 4.25 in barrel with full size grip would be great carry gun. I think that it would end up being my primary carry just beacuse it's a 45.

Lets see spotty quailty and finish on Small parts(Nickel plating flake off).
Spotty Customer service. The LDAs are tough to detail strip and even tougher to reassemble.

Agreed, but the LTC is a traditional 1911 SA, not the LDA.

Hard to go wrong with a NRM Colt, IMHO.

Get a Colt, Kimber, Wesson or Springfield. Way better value for the money.

Power extractor? Do a search and see how many broke already. Another "problem" that didn't need fixing.

The finish on most Para's stink. Worse than some Kimber's but at least the Kimber's are accurate. If you like the pimped looks of the Para and glossy magazine ads, go for it. But since you asked for opinions...

Four that I know of -- apparently a bad batch of parts on initial production. Are there more?
