Let's get the unavoidable verbage situation out of the way: There is no "Series I" Kimber. There is no "Series 70" Colt. The Series 80's/Series II/Schwartz safety 1911's can be "smoothed out" or whatever and so on and so forth. Forget it. It's over.

I'm looking for a non-Schwartz 1911 to add to my collection, and I'm very interested in the Para-Ordnance GI Expert model and the STI Spartan. I cannot find much in the way of whether or not they have the Schwartz safety or are without.

If anyone knows of a comprehensive list of "good" non-Schwartz 1911's or have any suggestions that would be great, thanks.

And, alas... "I see your Schwartz is as big as mine!"

Are you talking about firing pin safeties in general or the Swartz firing pin safety as found in Kimber 1911's? If your concern merely with firing pin safeties, remember just about every other non-1911 pistol has one from Glock, to Sig, to S&W, to Ruger, etc.

The list as I know it is as follows...

ParaUSA uses a firing pin safety like the Colt Series 80 design. As do Auto Ordnance, Sig, and Taurus. These are activated/deactivated by the trigger. Colt does have a couple of models (Series 70 Repro, 1918) without a firing pin safety.

S&W uses a firing pin safety activated/deactivated by the grip safety much like the system used in the Kimber Swartz system, though it is a completely different design and patent. The S&W TFP (stands for Titanium Firing Pin) Model does not have a firing pin safety.

Kimber uses the Swartz designed firing pin safety, originally designed by Colt in the 1920's. Like Colt, Kimber offers a couple of pistols without a firing pin safety. They are identified by the lack of the "II" designation. The Warrior models and the SIS (though now discontinued) don't have a firing pin safety.

Armscor/Rock Island Armory (RIA), Les Baer, Ed Brown, Nighthawk, Springfield, STI, Dan Wesson, and Wilson Combat have no firing pin safety.

Though Springfield does not use a firing pin safety, they do use a proprietary sized titanium firing pin and spring to meet drop standards in states that require them. They are also equipped with the ILS in the mainspring housing.

P-O pistols use the Colt Series 80 type, i.e., a plunger in the slide actuated by levers when the trigger is pulled. I don't know what, if any, kind of drop safety STIs use.

Ok....it's Swartz

I'm looking for a non-Schwartz 1911 to add to my collection,

Colt has the Series 70 re-issue, the 2 WWI repros, and the WWII repro (might be hard to find now) without any drop safety devices.
