Para ordnance opinions: what are they?

I came soooo close to buying one a few weeks ago, actually there's one right now on my local shooters board for sale for $650.00. But, I've read to many bad reviews about Para and especially their customer service. There's plenty of happy Para owners out there but there seems to be more who have had problems, especially dealing with CS. I know any manufacturer will have problems, especially when somethings mass produced. I went with S&W as their customer service is excellent, if you ever do have a problem they will send you a shipping lable and pay for it to be shipped both ways....Oh, and being 20 mins. from me helps too :D

Back in the 90s and up to not that many years ago, they were innovative, tried new things, and made guns that were worth the occasional fitment issues and hiccups.

The last few years the qc has really slipped and they've stopped dealing with the problems. If you are looking at an older Para it might be worth a shot; If you are looking at newer ones, there are other makers out there with better production standards and at the same price point.

I just got a para, used- and a couple of years old; that's why I'm wondering... It is an SSP covert black or something along those lines.

I don't know that model in detail, but if it shoots well and reliably for you, just be happy and go shoot it!

I have a friend who uses his Para in IPSC competition. because of failing eyesight, he put a reflex sight on it and shoots Unlimited (I think that's the level. I've never been to a match with him) It's a good gun and puts lead downrange where intended. My buddy wrings out the best from it, or maybe it's the other way around: the Para's a wondergun that anyone can shoot. It's an older model though and apparently isn't representative of newer offerings.

I have had several. If you can find one that you like as it is, they're fine in my eyes for range guns.

Given their reputation for poor parts quality control, I am hesitant to trust one for carry purposes. They also tend to be a wee bit non-standard in terms of 1911-pattern parts interchangability.
