well i intended to post about this a few weeks ago, but never got around to it.

i ran about 100 rounds through the p12 i bought, and am a little unimpressed. it looks in great condition, barely fired, i dont think its even broken in yet. i had failure to extracts, the extractor claw wouldnt even catch the rim, had to plunge it out from the muzzle end with a cleaning rod. btw, this still has all the old features.

i'll have WWG do an extractor tuneup, and i know i'll get flamed for this by the 1911 snobs ( :neener: ) but i'd really like a full length guide rod. the bushing also seems loose, and the barrel doesnt really lockup when its in battery. theres some looseness, maybe needs a new recoil spring?

does anyone else have any experience with the p12? i'd like to get it reliable enough for carrying. funny how those extra 5 rounds make shooting much more fun.
 
The extractor may well have all the tension of al dente pasta. Did you remove the slide and do a rough check of the tension before you bought? ;)

but i'd really like a full length guide rod.

The P12.45 I had ran okay with both ten and twelve round mags, and digested JHP's with aplomb. Never tried SWC's in it. (It was a non-LTD gun like yours...) For the life of me, though, I can't remember if it had been set up with a FLGR and a reverse-plug or not by the previous owner; it was about four years and a lot of guns ago... I can't remember what I wound up doing with the gun, either. I think I traded it in or traded it to a friend. :uhoh:
 
no, i usually rely on my sanctimonious effete yiddish gunshop commando to tell me a gun is 'okay'. :D

i did field strip it and tried to pull the extractor out, but once i try to pull it backwards out of the slide the hook snags and i got frustrated, so i put it back together.

now you yourself said that the flgr can help the slide feel 'tighter'. and thats the main reason i want it. so nanny nanny boo boo. :neener:

i have two standard capacity magazines, one works great, the other wont go into slide lock when empty, bit of research showed that many people have had to replace the magazine springs, so thats a no-brainer.

in the meantime, its a fun little range gun.

the accuracy is really horrible though. it wont group, and not just for me. another shooting buddy shot it as well, with poor results, and he knows his stuff far better than i do.
granted, i was only shooting at a target stand at 25 yards, and the berm at 50 yards. next range trip will be at 7 and 15 yards. but the para was shooting minute of pie plate at 50 yards, about 12 inch groups.
my kimber was shooting 3 inch groups at 50.
 
I've the Springfield Micro Compact which is basically a P12 clone -- takes P12 mags. Gun feeds everything I've tried, but getting good mags was a problem.

Hopefully this will change with the AWB sunset.

I did have to adjust the extractor tension after a few hundred rounds, been fine since -- I shoot a lot of Wolf and lead SWC reloads thru it, been very reliable now that I've fixed a couple of mags for it. Still got one mag that needs a little more work.

My Para P10 will not feed my lead SWC reloads. Chamber is too tight for my lead RN reloads as well, unless I seat then so the "shoulder" is flush with the case mouth.

I liked my P12 and wanted it to work but it kept jamming. I put in stronger mag springs but still had jams. I finally decided that my dirty PMP ammo was fouling up the gun and slowing everything down. After I switched to cleaner UMC ammo everything seems to be OK. This pistol is about as small a platform that I want to use with .45. The trigger happens to be very good and accuracy excellent. If it continues jam-free, I will be happy. I think smaller 1911's have little margin for error and may not be as reliable as the full-size pistols. My big Para 14-45 has never jammed or failed to fire.
