Hi!

I have a "Fabrique d'Armes de Guerre 7.65, Paramount 32 cal pistol - got it at an auction a few years ago, came from Universal Studios' prop department. I know it is one of those that were handmade in Spain; what I would like to find out is where I can possibly find a schematic or diagram so I can figure out what parts I may need. Yes, the gun works, and it's fun, but the trigger doesn't want to work properly - I can pull and pull with no resulting bang, but as soon as I start to release the pressure on the trigger it fires. Not exactly conducive to accuracy.

Thanks!

Dan

This is a typical example of a "Ruby" pistol, made in Spain for the French during and after WW1; they were all basically copies of the Browning 1906 pistol, and all work the same basic way, including disassembly, so a schematic of the Browning 1906 should work for your purposes.

Thanks, SDC! I have a copy of Numrich's latest catalog, #30, which does not list the 1906...but does have a 7.65mm. Would that be the same? It's shown on page 95.

In looking through that catalog, I also found an MAB Model D (on page 436) which looks amazingly like my Paramount...

The basic design of the pistol will be the same, but the Rubys were made without any sort of grip safety. All of these should have a trigger-bar that runs along the side of the frame (sometimes just held in by the grip panel) to press on the bottom of the rotating sear at the rear of the pistol. More than likely, all this pistol requires is a good cleaning, which might mean nothing more than taking the grips off and blowing it out with something like Gunscrubber aerosol and compressed air. For field-stripping, all you need to do is take the magazine out and work the slide several times, looking into the chamber to make sure the pistol is empty. There's a small rounded lever on the left side that acts as both a safety and a slide-lock, so hold the slide back so you can hook that lever into the front-most slot in the slide above it. Next, the barrel can be rotated so it comes loose from the frame lugs that are holding it in place. After the barrel's loose, you can rotate the lever on the left side back down out of engagement with the slide, and then everything will come forward off of the frame. Reassembly is in the reverse order.

I've given the gun plenty of cleaning, as I've shot a number of rounds through it, but I have yet to be able to field strip it. I've done all you suggested, too - I've taken out the mag, removed the barrel, released the slide lock/safety, and pulled the trigger. The slide gets very loose, and goes farther forward, but I still can not get the slide to come off. Other than that it's a very old piece and may be worn out, any other suggestions as to how to get the slide off would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again!

Dan

The pistol should remain cocked during disassembly, because the internal hammer swings up into the bottom of the slide to hit the firing-pin; if you pull the trigger before trying to pull the slide off, the hammer will stop the slide from coming off. HTH.
