Damn internet!!!! The good and bad about the net is if you look long enough you can find something bad about everything, well I found it. I recently put a nice Sako 75 Stainless Synthetic on layaway at our local sporting goods store. Well I was reading last nite about a recall on them in like 1994-95 due to bad stainless steel as they were blowing up. I searched and searched and finally found a serial number range for effected firearms and luckily the one I have isn't in the range (its older) BUT it is in the back of my mind now. I was second guessing my decision to buy a used rifle that was so expensive anyhow when I can go new for little more but now the gears are really turning, what should I do??? I am set on the caliber, so set I bought my dies last nite, but the gun choice could be changed still, opinions needed again.

Don't fret...nearly every mfr. has had a boo-boo some time in their history. As a Sako 75SS owner, I GUARANTEE you will absolutely love this rifle!

I think that series of pictures showing a rifle barrel opened up like a banana peel was supposedly a Sako. I'm betting it was a WAY overpressure round and not just bad steel responsible.

your being silly.

Essentially, you've developed Münchhausen's by proxy.... FOR A GUN! :D

Its OK. The gun is fine. Now step back and LET it be fine. ;)

It's fine. Sako knows precisely WHY that particular serial number was a bad batch. They know precisely what they did differently from the rifles before and after that serial number range. They would have recalled a larger range if they were not sure. So shoot with confidence. :)

I don't blame you for being paranoid. If you would have checked with your brother-in-law or your friends bil, you could have had the rifle for "below wholesale".

It is called "buyers remorse" and the more you think about it the more it will bother you until you actually take possession of the rifle and shoot it once or twice....Then, everything will be OK and you will scarcely remember your second thoughts.
