In the past I've purchased arms and ammo from a few different viewpoints: buy 'em now before they're banned ... buy stuff in all the common models/calibers ... have extras for friends/neighbors when TSHTF ... have spare guns instead of spare parts ... etc. etc.

Now I am moving towards the philosophy of less guns and more training, and having practical items now rather than excess inventory for a rainy day.
Also the recent ammo issues have caused me to rethink my caliber decisions and storage needs.

This thread is meant to be about what to trim down first.

What I'm leaning towards is: defensive arm = AR carbine & offensive arm = 308 bolt gun ... (thread is not about those choices :D)

That being said, I would get rid of AK's, SKS's, 7.62x39 ammo, FAL's and most 308 ammo (i.e. surplus, while reloading good stuff for the bolt) ...

I figured by selling the extraneous items I could buy higher quality optics for my primary arms, more ammo I'd actually use instead of store, etc.

Sort of return to the spirit of the "beware the man with one gun" aphorism ...

If SHTF, I'm not going to grab more than one rifle, and it's not like I can stick a case of ammo in my ruck ... also I am moving away from the "repelling boarders" fantasy and have a desire to pick one gun and just flat out stop screwing with it.
