Hello all,

I have an 1911 a-1 that is parkerized. I am looking to replace the grip safety with a high ride beaver tail and the safety to an ambi safety but i can only find them in blued os stainless. anyone know where i can get these in parkerized? anyone?

Check the Brownells catalog or do a search online. Brownells lists several DIY parkerizing solutions. I have never used them so I can't state if parts have to be stripped of bluing before use; their catalog will explain the procedure. Brownells also has a great technical department that would help you out. Good luck.

The problem with parkerizing is that the color turns out different each time. When the solution is new, the color is darker. As it gets used more, the color lightens up. If you want all the parts to match, you will have to parkerize them at the same time.

If you oil the parkerizing WELL, it'll be black like a nice dark blue part will be.

Which parts are parkerized? which parts are blued?

OK granted it's NOT the best picture. but you get the point

Parkerizing is easy. But it may not match exactly.
I'd do all of the controls at the same time (mag release, slide stop, safties, maybe even MSH, bushing, and plug) and it will have a more congruent look.

i get that and i realize i could parkerize it myself but i was just wondering if i could buy parkerized parts, and i have looked online. cant find any, i really dont understand why theres none to be had. i mean, we can get neon green or pink grips for almost any pistol but we cant get a part that makes sense. i dont understand...:banghead:

There are some out there, but they are of much lesser quality. I think Sarco or Numrich carries a parkerized extended thumb safety. I installed one in a friends RIA. About 90% sure he got it from Numrich but it could have even been bought on ebay. It's been 2-3 years since then. He got the part himself and I just did the fitting.

Most mfgrs of high quality parts (Wilson, Brown, Baer, etc) don't produce parkerized guns, so they don't produce parkerized parts. RIA tacticals have a ambi safety and hi beavertail, and they have a parked finish, so you may want to call them and see if they will sell parts only.

What kind of gun is it?

Well there you go. Give them a call, tell them you're looking for the safeties they use on the Tactical models, and see what they can do for you. You'll have to cut the frame a bit and swap or bob the hammer. Of course the safeties will need fit too, but I think you've at least got the parked vs blued issue handled.
