I have been shoot surplus Ammo 30 + years ,when you buy ammo the seller, may or not the country of origin ,or they are greedy and want dump trash on you .Here the fix US Army manual. Do a web search for DST-1160G-514-78 Small-caliber Ammunition Identification Guide JUNE 1978 rev.1980 or later it was written before the government became dysfunctional (yes there is good info on the internet) please past this info on. The DST is the best source for determine what you really got. Caution if you print it the outlines scales to determine the ammo caliber and or type will be out scale. (Example) inter blog ( 7.62X54R steel case with black bullet is for Heavy machine gun don’t shoot in bolt action rifle. East German I think?) I have 7.62X54R steel case with black bullets, So do I toss it out or look it up in DST (I have a printed copy) in this case very little of the info is correct Long /Short 1. “Yes“ East German made from some East German competent (7.62X39 bullet 123 gr AK type.) In Bulgarian MFG. case, powder and primer .2.”No” it is not for heavy machine gun in this case ONLY look it up, it’s training Ammo low recoil 300 meters maxim affective range if you can see that far . Marry that with M38, M44 or TPYE 53 carbine with short barrel and reduce weight you can fire more than 10 rds.before your shoulder goes numb. I could have believe the the blog and tossed 4000rd. or do the research and get combo that work great together. BUT YOU still have make THE CALL. If still not sure don’t shoot it. Put it aside “options” in part 3. GOT UR SIX, Tankdude out!
