Parts for Mossberg 500

I have a Mossberg 500 with an 8 shot magazine and want to put a barrel with a rifle choke on it. All I can find are barrels that are for six shot magazine guns. Does anybody know of a barrel made to fit an 8 shot magazine or where I can get a 6 shot mag? How hard is it to change out the mag tube? Thanks, Joe

Years ago I think they made a 24" bbl for the 8-shots. I only saw it listed once and thought about buying one, and havent seen it since.

That's why it's a better idea to get a Sidewinder if you want more shells in a Mossberg.

The magazine tube simply screws out of the reciever. (might be a bit tight the first time and require a strap wrench , or simular) .

They are not real expensive and can be purchased from just about any Mossberg warranty station near you , as well as other gun parts places. (like Brownells, or Gun Parts Corp , etc. . ( or Ebay )

PS: Just looked and there is one on ebay at this time for $20 on a buy-it-now that includes the spring ($5 S&H)

I've found some Mossbergs to have a brown colored lock-tite type substance on the mag tube threads.A drop of fingernail polish remover will take care of that or a little heat from a heat-gun or hair dryer works too.The 6 shot tube and spring will screw right in and the proper barrel will go on without any trouble.tom.

I am in to mossberg shotguns a little so I have done a little research on this subject.

At one time mossberg has offerd a 28inch barrel and a 20inch with rifle sights for your gun.
Most likely you bought yours with the 20inch with bead sight.
There is not much availible for your gun because it was sold with home defence in mind.
As far as change the magazine tube that kind of iffy. Mossbergs have a alloy frame which is easer to damage than a steel one. Yes, you can change the mag. tubes but you run the chance damage some day if you keep change back and forth.

Mossberg are cheap enough to by another complete shotgun as a spare defence/hunting shotgun.

ps try to buy a combo set (18.5 and the 28 inch barrels)
