I have a mossberg 500, the sporter model with the 5 shot magazine tube and the 24" and 28" barrels include, wood stocks, bough it about 6 years ago for $350 bucks. Awesome gun for the money. I've always wanted to make it more tactical since I only hunt with it a few weeks out of the year and the rest of the time it sits in the closet. I figure i can upgrade it and make it more tactical and still use it for deer/bear hunting, bear protection, light small game and bird hunting (not a big bird hunter anyway).

I saw brownells carries a high capacity mossberg 500 extension kit which comes with an 8 shot magazine tube, and 20" cylindered barrel with rifled sights and a spring w/o a follower for $150. My only problem with this is the rifled sights... I don't think I'll be able to take the rear sight off since they probably solder or weld it on the barrel at the factory ? Or am I wrong, is there a screw somewhere where I can take it off?

Therefore I figure for the same price I can get a 20" 8 shot barrel without sights and just a bead for $85, a 8 shot mag tube for $40, a stainless steel follower for $20, and a spring for $5.. I'm just wondering if the 8shot mag tube will fit the threads on my mossberg.

Yes.
I didn't even know Brownells had such a kit -- it's actually a decent price if decent quality parts.

I didn't know either until i saw it. Thanks. I wonder if the beat is a removable bead.. i.e. is it threaded, in case i want to put a tritium bead on instead

Brownells says they are OEM parts, so they must be the factory 500 persuader model parts
