I actually had a thread not too long ago about gun shopping in Pawnshops. There are some crazy deals to be had, but very rarely will the casual shopper find them, because quite frankly, guys that are serious about bargains get to them well before they spend much time under the glass. My dad, who is a diehard pawnshopper, has built good enough relationships that he will often get calls before the guns are put out for the public, which isn't uncommon. One strategy that my dad and I both use it to establish a theoretical maximum price that we will pay, mention it to the guy, who will then either laugh at us, sell it to us, or tell us that if it hasn't sold by such and such date he will sell it to us for X price, which is which is usually higher than our theoretical max, but almost always lower than our actual max. Not to toot my own horn, but if you do a search you should be able to find that thread, and I think it offers a lot of good info on shopping for guns in a pawn shop. Thatguy got a great deal, but I am not particularly surprised that he got it from a pawnshop!
