Afternoon 'gents,

I went to the pawn shop today downtown, and was surprised at the huge numbers of milsurps thtey had for sale. I have made up my mind to get an SKS, and then a Mosin Nagant (and an AK if funds allow). However, they had a lot, and they seemed expensive.

There was ONE Russian SKS, but it was $329, which seemed pricey. There were a host of Yugos (all with the grenade launcher extended barrel) for between $219 and $239, which also seemed a little high.

As for the Mosins, there were a host of M44s that were around $100; the M39s were all around $300!

As for the AKs, a lot of Century Arms for between $350 and $550.

Question: is this about right? They weren't all that special, rather beat up, covered in cosmoline. I was hoping for cheaper prices at a pawnshop, but they were also selling newish Glocks for $569. What do you guys think?

I'd like an SKS and perhaps a Mosin before I go overseas in May...

Best,

Russian SKSs can go for that much, Yugos are in the $125 to $150 range at most. The M44 is priced about right assuming they are excellent, and the M39 may be a tick high (I assume you meen Finn M39, not Russian M38) they go for $250 to $300 for excellent condition, Century AKs should be in the $300 to $350 range, maybe $50 or so more for an underfolder.

At a gun show in Pasadena, Texas last weekend some folks had Norincos there, with the paras at $229 and the long ones up to $199. The long ones had been $179 at these same peoples' booth a couple of weeks earlier. They were very good, but not excellent, and they all had ventilated metal or Zytel handguards. Was a ventilated metal handguard ever OEM on a Norinco?

These same folks had lots of tacticooled Chinese (ATI stock, hi-cap detachable mags, etc.) Norincos for $249 - claimed they were 922 compliant.

Another group had a shipping case full of good condition shooter's grade Yugos for $149.

The guy who'd been at another show with good shooters for $145 two weeks previously had 3 for $140. Scattered around the hall were a few loner Yugos at prices ranging from $185 to $235, there was an Albanian for $359 and a good condition Russian for ~$500.

I was in a gun shop this morning where they had a case of good, but not new/unissued, de-cosmo'd Yugos for $249. That seemed high, but those guys are in the business, so I guess they must have an idea as to what will sell.

Samco lists the following:
Shooter's Grade: $119.95
Very Good Condition: $129.95
Special Select Condition: $139.95
Excellent Condition: $159.95
New Condition: $179.95
New Condition with Consecutive Serial Numbers $209.95
Order 2 pieces or more $5.00 OFF

I have no idea if they are really there and available or not, and I guess they might involve shipping and an FFL transfer if you don't have a C&R.

Atlantic Firearms lists new/unissued for $229.

Impact Guns lists "Good with cracked stocks" Yugos for $184.99, Good condition Yugos for $199.99 and "New" ones for $299.99. All are "out of stock."

At a gun show one month ago there was a table selling so-so Yugos for $109; I talked to one of the guys there at noon on the first day and he said they had 13 left of the 30 they'd started with three hours earlier.

Just a snapshot for you.

These guys are probably hoping the fervor around the possibility of a new assualt weapons ban will drive consumers to pay those prices.

I bought a new/unfired Norinco SKS for 200 a week ago. I plan on gettin a Yugo SKS tomorrow, I believe they are 109.00, but are beat, beat, beat, with broken/repaired stocks. I'll try and pick the best of what they have and see how it cleans up.

the gunshow today had LOTS of over priced guns ( surprise) except one table had a SKS for 100$. if i hadnt already spent over my "allowance" i would have bought it. also had a pretty girl working the table ( if you read this PM me ;) :p ) anyway.

the price for the Russian SKS wasnt over priced, depending on condition
the yugos better have been unissued for that price
the m44 is a tad pricy for a pawn shop

keep in mind cosmoline has a tendancy to make a rifle look like CRUD. but once thats all off. it could verywell be a excelent gun

well the only reason to go to a pawn shop is to find a good deal. doesnt sound like they have anything reasonable. my pawn shop around here had a yugo sks for 130 dollars last weekend.

This is why I asked - you gents are the best and most knowledgeable around!

I was taken by the Russian - it seems that it tends to the expensive side. Can't stop thinking about it...it had a star on the receiver, very commie!

Good point on the cosmoline - they are all gunky in the rack, but with some (a lot?) work would probably clean up nicely.

Does the grenade launcher effect firing at all vs the standard Russian barrel?

Thanks again,
alpinewhitey

The pawn shop here has the price on the tag---and then the "real" price when you seem serious that you're going to actually buy something.

Never hurts to haggle---the worse you can do is the price on the tag.

Dunhams has been selling 59/66's in my area (NW OHIO ) for$109, most I have seen were in good to very good condition. I bought 2 with good wood and bores matching numbers for $200 plus tax. Local Pawn Shop had a 59/66 that apperently had been left in salt water since about 67, wood that supported a carving school and a bore that looked like shotgun for only $375 " SPECIAL OPS RIFLE YUGO MARINES ". Everyone knows the " YUGO MARINES " used 30/40 Krags with suppressors.
